i learned everything i know about sound creation from experimenting with the microkorg. i got this when i was 16 and then hooked it up to a osciloscope which was alot of fun to just watch the waves bounce by.

The vocoder thing is just getting ridiculous. If someone wanted a f-ing vocoder they'd buy one. If they want a SYNTH, they don't go looking for a vocoder. Who gives a flying s about vocoders. How many compositions use one. Too much hype about more or less a toy feature. It's as if the whole godamn synth was defined by it. Godamm kiddies, causing confusion by giving rave reviews based on the least relevant feature of a synth.

Tried it, bought it, love it. Anyone calling it a toy for poor people or other bs gets paid by competitors. The Microkorg delivers 100% if you want to have virtual analogue synth fun (plus vocoder fx), and it's useful for serious soundscape design, too. I added it up to my YAMAHA DJX-1 (PSR-D1 for the highbrows, another ultra cheap classic funkeyboard, not to be confused with it's "successor" DJX-II, erm...) plus CUBASICS for Windows. A combination that's hard to challenge at a mere 600.- € for the new items. Dr Chill and the Ambient Ambulance, nuff said.

This box looks loke a toy, the display is poor, many presets are weak, and it is difficult to edit in the dark. The 'Distortion' option is rudimentary, perhaps pointless. Naming convention on the preset bank wheel is a bit laughable.
It sounds fantastic. There are some huge synthesis options. The creative possibilities are enormous. The modular 'patch' modulation system is incredible. Two MIDI-syncable LFOs and syncable delay, 3-band EQ and FX. Again, seriously good sound. Then there's a vocoder & arpeggiator I can't really comment on. For basslines this is superb. But that's not all. This is just such a tweakable joy to learn and rewards good programming. Anyway, anyone considering buying this great little synth should ignore everyone's opinion, and spend an hour or two with this thing & the instruction manual.
I don't understand some people's hate-fuelled rantings about this great little synth. Aliasing problem? Clicks? Ridiculous. There are no such problems at all.
For the price, it's got to be 5/5.
