Having just sold my MS2000, I have to say the MicroKorg sounds phatter than the MS2000. Did anybody else notice that too? That was the first thing that struck me - how full and warm the MicroKorg's sounds were in comparison to other VA synths I have used (the MS2000 including).

The microkorg is a fun keyboard that offers excellent sound. I really enjoy the added functionality of the DGWS waveforms along with the normal analog style ones. The vocoder is also a nice touch. The manual is well written and really shows what the machine is capable of. The keyboard excels at pad sounds and nice spacey arpeggios. It also offers solid bass. Feature wise I can't complain, plenty of filter modes and the addition of the mod matrix allows for some wierd and useful modulations. I own couple of real analog keyboards and this one fits in well. It also doubles as a useful midi controller. I love the way it runs on batteries...it provides hours of entertainment on my grave shifts :-). This synth is not an end all be all, no keyboard is, however I am very satisfied with my purchase. I think it helps that I am a big believer in "you get what you pay for", if you want more functions like more than 4 voices than go spend the money. If you are realistic about your purchase and don't make an impulse buy I think you'll be satisfied. One more thing, I have read reviews where people BITCH about the Minikeys, thats plain stupid. When I buy something with MICRO in the name I expect something very small. No one bitches that rackmount modules have no keyboards, thats because thats the point. The point of the microkorg is a SMALL fun keyboard. My only real bitch are the *stupid* genre labels on the front panel. The editing matrix can also be trying at first because of some rather mystical definitions on the front panel. All in all not a bad buy. My best advice to you is to try it first.

I just tried out my microKorg after purchasing it yesterday, and I must say it is one surprising machine. I'm used to "vintage" analog gear and this machine has the great sounds of a Poly-61. And the vocoder! Plus external sound source! I like my setup with the Korg Electribe EA1 and a Yamaha DX200 as the MIDI master.
The machine is worth several times the price I've paid.

This is a pretty cool little synth! I've owned it for several days now, and have already become quite proficient with the sound editing.. I've read other reviews that complain about the matrix edit style being a bit difficult to manage, however if you have any synthesis experience (softsynths in my case), and are not a moron, you should find this easy to use. Only two multitimbral, and only 4 voice polyphony, however it's cool that you can select a different waveform for each oscillator (something like 70 different waveforms) and tune/detune each one as you like.. cross modulate between oscillators. Also up to 4 virtual patch routes for each timbre, which is awesome.. each virtual patch route will let you use something such as lfo1, lfo2, mod wheel, pitchwheel or whatever to modify many other parameters like cutoff, lfo2, amp, pan, pitch.. you can get REALLY creative with it. then you could also add some flange/chorus, ensemble, phasing, delay, distortion.. (Wow, this thing gets cooler the more I write about it.) The vocoder sounds good, can be fully edited and the formant hold is a nice feature. While not the best sounding analog modeling synth out there, it still sounds excellent, and allows you to produce a wide range out sounds. As far as durability, it feels a bit cheap and plasticy, although it does feel well designed in any case... I'd still be careful with banging it around, as I don't think it could take too much abuse.. but, if you're planning on using it for studio use this shouldn't be a problem. I have no experience with the software editor (and don't care/need to) and also have not tried using its MIDI implementation.. so no comments on those. If you're making the move from software to hardware, and want a beginner synth for use in your studio, I recommend this.

This is a fantastic synth! The retro look works and the big black knobs are very firm and good. The PC-editor that you can find from Korg.com is very easy to use and it makes the sound editing so much more easy (i�t isn�t super hard without it though!!) This is a great 2nd synth for anykind of electromusicans (I myself do little bit of D�n�B but mostly downtempo like Massive attack or Unkle!
