BUZTED K!D a professional user from UK writes:
I found this synth to be quite limited with the patches etc. Even when trying to edit the patches it was still quite uninspiring. The layout is a bit wank I like knobs and lots of them. Anyhow, the sounds at first are kinda cool but after a while get boring and inhibit creativeness. I am very interested in the Novation K-Station for just a little cheaper(?!?!) than the microKORG because of the layout and features. I originally wanted a synth for blips and noise and the microKORG couldn't fulfil this at the volume I desired. The hiphop/vintage and breakbeat groups are cool for basses and organ type sounds. (The nintendo NES sound I am going to miss dearly! (program 6A or 7A on hip hop) but to be honest I'd rather have my money back and buy a synth with more than one cool program on it). I will borrow this synth or download a VST for the NES sound in the studio, otherwise I shall just use the K-Station for studio AND live use, which it excels at :-)

Obviously analog beats off all bar a few just for the fact they look and sound very very cool. If you are looking for plenty of knobs and ease of use to edit patches or to create totally new ones...this is not the synth for you. For the same price (or cheaper) buy a Novation K-Station. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I love the site, very imformative and cool reviews.

Cheers, Chris x

Maurizio a hobbyist user from Italy writes:
I love synthpop and found it not bad, but many sounds of microkorg seem heavy or boring. There aren't poetic and ethereal pads. The arp is good, but I discovered only 3 or 4 nice basses: very limited synth I think. Vocoder and easiness of editing are maybe the great qualities of microkorg.

A great little beast. I've been using it since last summer for gigging and recording and there isn't anything i don't like about it.

For something this small its sound is really fat - especially if you use both outputs into the mixing desk.

I've taken out 2 of the side screws and fitted guitar strap holders, so with batteries and a long lead you can do the 80's synth stylee!

Used it in a support gig for The Ozric Tentacles, and people were asking me questions about it all night. so if you want a cool looking, great sounding mini synth look no further.

First of all, I am an addicted user to be more specific. This keyboard (microkorg) is EXACTLY what I was craving after years of playing with virtual synths (orangator, fruityloops,etc.). The thing that jumped out at me most was the knobbage and mod wheels. You can literally sit there all day with a soft lamp on next to you and play without thinking about what's going on. It's amazing. If there's anything that bothers me, it's the cheap plastic used to hold it together, and the bits of noise distortion when you are changing the delay settings. Other than that, Awesome sensitivity and tweakability with razer sharp bombing filter sweeps. A phat sound that will make you shiver inside.
