Jim a hobbyist user from Sweden writes:
I bought this new when it came out and it has never failed me. It is a great little thing with a nice retrolook and it sounds superb! Nowadays it's getting common among proffesional musicians too.

My music is mostly based on the Jarre, Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd sounds from 1973-1980. And this little baby can do it all the way.

The first thing I did after I bought it was to download the editingprogram from Korg site and then I got rid of tnhe horrible techno, trance-shit that the presets sounded like. After building my own sounds from scratch it now sounds like an old analogue beast from the 70's. (Of course it lacks that special felling that you get with a vintage synth but I guess you can live with that fact)

The microKorg isn't just made for dance, trance and techno. It's made for every kind of electronic music you do. If you want it to be a growling bass, a blippy effectmachine, pads or screaming lead it can do it. Buy one of these and play around. You won't be dissapointed as long as you use it for what it has been built for. That means that you can't expect it to emulate great and real sounding pianos, organs or other acoustic instruments. It's a "analogue" synth not a Triton.

Mather's Studios a hobbyist user from United Kingdom writes:
I've owned the MicroKorg for just over one-and-a-half years and have already reviewed it here but I noticed the number of people who use their microKorg's for dance music. The genres printed around the program select dial clearly suggest that this is what Korg had in mind but I'd just like to say that ever since I had the microKorg it's featured in every composition I've written... and I don't write Dance music. I write more progressive stuff that's funky with a bit of classical here and there.

Old analog synths featured in all sorts of music from progressive metal, rock, filmscores through to Dance. The microKorg can be used for just about anything.

I think that instead of having the program select dial it would have been better to have two rows of eight buttons. During a performance it's difficult to change program on the fly if you've got to turn the knob and push a button. Two keystrokes - one for bank select and the other for program select would have been much easier.

As a standalone machine the sounds are just amazing but some of them don't cut through a full mix very well which is my justification for scoring it 4/5. The best sounds are basses and pads, and leads - if you take the time to program some new ones. I also like the thunder, wind and 'environmental' sounds you can make with it, and the one preset organ patch where the mod wheel alters the chorus speed is really cool. Unlike normal modulation it sounds like a genuine rotary effect.

Christian a hobbyist user from California writes:
I purchsed my MicroKORG for about $320 two years ago from a friend. He abused it, but the thing still runs strong. The finish on the wooden cheeks has worn off, but it just adds to that "vintage" look. We use two microkorgs in my band, The Arcade. Go listen for yourself at http://www.rockthearcade.com

livid_infliction a hobbyist user from chicago writes:
I just recently bought this little tank and all I can say is that it is definately one of the best purchases I have made. Not only did I pay about $225 for it, but the sound on this thing would even make me pay full price. Sure, the controls are a bit primitive, but it still gets the job done, and well at that. This thing has a range of fat sounds that can be incorporated in several styles of electronic music, yes, even INDUSTRIAL!

I bought this unit used on E-bay and I got for 200.00 bucks. After I spent the first five minutes on it I realized how truly "Stupid"the seller must have been for giving this one up!!!.This Micro is a Gem.I currently Own 12 full blown Synth's and this one is definitely on the top 3 list.Anyone saying that they think this is a toy is truly An amature programmer. And the mere fact that this unit weighs in at a tiny <5lbs and can be battery powered and also pack such a sonic punch makes it even more entiseing.WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
