My music is mostly based on the Jarre, Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd sounds from 1973-1980. And this little baby can do it all the way.

The first thing I did after I bought it was to download the editingprogram from Korg site and then I got rid of tnhe horrible techno, trance-shit that the presets sounded like. After building my own sounds from scratch it now sounds like an old analogue beast from the 70's. (Of course it lacks that special felling that you get with a vintage synth but I guess you can live with that fact)

The microKorg isn't just made for dance, trance and techno. It's made for every kind of electronic music you do. If you want it to be a growling bass, a blippy effectmachine, pads or screaming lead it can do it. Buy one of these and play around. You won't be dissapointed as long as you use it for what it has been built for. That means that you can't expect it to emulate great and real sounding pianos, organs or other acoustic instruments. It's a "analogue" synth not a Triton.

Old analog synths featured in all sorts of music from progressive metal, rock, filmscores through to Dance. The microKorg can be used for just about anything.

I think that instead of having the program select dial it would have been better to have two rows of eight buttons. During a performance it's difficult to change program on the fly if you've got to turn the knob and push a button. Two keystrokes - one for bank select and the other for program select would have been much easier.

As a standalone machine the sounds are just amazing but some of them don't cut through a full mix very well which is my justification for scoring it 4/5. The best sounds are basses and pads, and leads - if you take the time to program some new ones. I also like the thunder, wind and 'environmental' sounds you can make with it, and the one preset organ patch where the mod wheel alters the chorus speed is really cool. Unlike normal modulation it sounds like a genuine rotary effect.
