get an1x instead, an1x has 10 notes of polyphony, ms has only 4! you cannot make chords with ms2000...jp8000 has a vocoder, but its sounds are not as good as an1x!

Korg2000B. I don't know about the Korg2000R, but I think the two are the same except for the Mic vocoder. the B has a vocoder mic that attaches to the unit. When I bought this unit, new just a couple of weeks ago, Ithought I was getting a real analog synth. I found out after a little homework that it is a modeling synth. I guess more digital than Analog. As I am an Electronics Hobbyist, I allways thought Analog was a Sinewave and digital was a squarewave. Well, whatever, after I found out I was a little disapointed that these little units are not real Analog synths, but fakes. Well, after messing around with the 2000B, i must say it sounds good to me. I think it is disigned well. The top base of the unit, where the controls are at, is a good design because you can place the palm of your hand and rest it on the base to turn the Knobs and press the buttons. Which to me is a good design feature. And so far I like the sounds. I am not at all to familiar with what to do with all the sounds yet, but it isn't taking long to learn. And if anyone is wondering about the keys, only 44, don't worry. It has (2000B) an octave button right up front to the left bottom you can automatially push to raise or lower the octave instead of having more keys. But more keys is good ofcourse, but I like this feature, it is cool. All in all, good design, great vocoder, and great sounds, and neat to experiment with. Only thing is, as with anything musical, one sound begs more. And an add on module would be cool. But the machine itself is good enough.

Before you guys judge this little synth, make sure you go out and try it for yourself. Not only does the MS sound amazing, but it's actually enjoyable to program. The design is kept simple, so even beginners can learn signal flow and the basics of programming. As for me, i don't use many of the presets, but instead have made my own industrial patches. Low price, easy to use, and that classic sound and feel most VA's don't have. If you're lookin for a workstation synth, this isn't what ya need, maybe check out a Triton. Trust me when ya buy the MS it'll grow on ya. :)

PROS - High quality collector's item with study metal casing and wooden side panels. Great looks! - Very straight-forward classic layout. Much attention paid to detail. - Crystal clear early retro sound. - Includes DWGS waveforms - another feature for collectors! - Effects are brilliant IMHO. - Vocoder makes you wanna cry of joy. - Mod sequencer is great fun - and those lights are so cool!

CONS - Limited polyphony. - Not the phattest VA around (this is also its strength). - The distortion should be much more crunchy.

Have had mine for a few months now, and I love it. It isn't the workstation to base your studio on. But who wants workstations these days anyway?

I would have to say that the MS2000 is a great introduction to synths. I played mine for about two years and did a lot of editing to the factory pre-sets. Sold it about two months ago, and have not missed it one bit. Personally, if you can't afford or don't want some of the older beasts (minimoog, 2600, MS20) and are simply into the newer keyes, I would save a little more and go for the Nord. The Lead 2 is a lot fatter than the ms2000. Just my own opinion. Do not base your buying decision soley on what is said here. Go play them all and leave your own feedback!
