I bought this rack 1 year ago 2nd hand but in perfect condition. My expectations were high towards piano and organ's sounds.Organ are without personality, too rich in bass fq,unrealistic, but still useable with little tweak n retweak.Acoustic piano are..korg,so don't trust them.Poor, poor and poor used alone, they say something better with some strings and your band but the sound of the patches in this module don't do justice to their name.Stereopiano maybe "One day probably i'll be a wannabe stereopiano"..i think it's too long for the big display's size, that's why korg called only Stereopiano.Electric piano are Wonderful, very impressive! All the other sounds are from good(orchestral, percussion, brass) to very good(strings, pads,fx). Not wonderful leads and moog-type sound.Difficult to edit,1 to this and 10 to my m1 that has a stone age display, impossible to see the buttons while you're playing live,Knobs works great, very good GM sounds(except piano.Overall positive judgement, even for the price you can find it.The only thing that irritate is acoustic piano sound:really a s...!

The N1r is a real journeyman in the synth market, sounds for all (come on dance freaks...buy a kaoss pad for the resonance, and all the other bits it lacks!). A real warmth in some areas, and a bit digital in others. Prices in the uk at around 175-230 for a 16part 64 voice synth. As deep to edit or has good enough presets to play with as a multi-timbral module. I really like the N1r....look what the resonance knob did to the triton, it made it sound like my hamster on amphet. You could do a damn site worse for 200, and only a small site better.

This thing is a professional X5DR times 3. Not many modules in this price range with knobs. Nice backlit screen that can be green or orange. Every sound I could ever need is in this unit (besides acoustic and dance). I remember sounds of anime and video games. This module has sounds from Armitage III. If you like the Japanese sound I recomend this along with a Sound Canvas 55, 88 or 88 Pro. I've seen a picture of Yuzo Koshiro in his studio with a SC88 Pro at his side. As for anime or video game techno I recomend the MC-505 or MC-307. These units do not even fair to an RM1X, but I'm talking about the sound. As for something that sounds like a Super Nintendo try a Yamaha MU series. Or a Yamaha FB01 for Sega Genesis Sound. How about an old Casio for Nintendo sound? Here is the picture that I was talking about with Yuzo Koshiro.

This is a great bargain. The X5DR is getting stellar reviews compared to this, and I don't understand it: the N1R has every sound of the X5DR (the editor can set up the user banks so that they are EXACTLY those of the X5DR or the 05R/W). In addition, it has the much-improved piano of the N1/Trinity, which is light-years ahead of the X5DR x-piano -- there is now no glaring timbre differences where an old sample ends and a new one begins). Don't believe those who say that the X series sounds better than the N series. When I purchased this, I had both an X5DR and an 05R/W in my studio. I tested them, A-B, through a mixer. I sold the smaller units the following week, for a combined price of double what I paid for the N1R.
I liked the X&0 boxes for the ease of choosing and using effects, but it's only because I was used to that approach. With the N1R you get: rackmounting capability; four knobs assignable to ANY cc; a knob for easy patch selection; built-in arpeggiator; 3x the sounds and more underlying samples for sound creation; a much nicer display; and more.
If you like the X-series (or any Korg AI/AI2 synth beginning with the M1), you'll love the N1R - it is the culmination of Korg's AI-series. If you find it, don't hesitate to buy it.
