Doc Jop from USA writes:
I have several Korg products including the Wavestation, M1, Tritone le, and the ns5r. The Tritone is for all intent and purpose, the cleanest sonically, plus jammed with some of the best samples on the planet. However, the ns5r has some GREAT sounds right out of the box. I am also very impressed with the editing capabilities of the ns5r. Granted you are stuck seeing only a portion of a page at a time in edit mode. However, looking deep enough, the page layout is fairly logical, and relatively easy to navigate. The envelopes, and filters work well together and sound very good. The effects algorithms are excellent, though a bit limited in application. Korg is NOT known for it's acoustic piano samples. But Korg ns5r did an excellent job with all the vintage electric piano's, organ, elec. & acoustic guitars, brass, synth and string samples. With some editing of many of the preset patches, one can have a VERY good palette of sounds. OVERALL, the ns5r is a good sounding box (with some tweeking), with excellent editing flexibility.

I've used the NS5R for several years now, and I somehow feel that I didn't reach its full potential yet. The basses are poor though. Brass, clavs and overall synthsounds must be the strength of NS5R in my opinion.

David Martnez a hobbyist user from Spain writes:
This module is a beast! Plenty of sounds, most of them very good and professional (although some are quite crap), and so varied that this gear can be used for very different kinds of music. I think that the combination sections are the most spectacular ones. Drum sounds are very good, too. And it has a very big, backlit, lovely, dot matrix screen, and a very useful wheel. A VERY good feature is that, contrary to most midi devices, you can use the midi terminals and the serial connector at the same time! That's great if yous have limited midi-outs. It's also nice that it has an audio input for another sound source. Nevertheless it has some minor (!) flaws: it's quite noisy compared to other machines, and, most of all, the organization of the sounds are crazy! You can spend much time looking for that danw good organ, or electric piano... It also would had been nice to have some insertion effects, besides the global ones, such for example the Yamaha's MU series. But, overall, I love it and I think is really great! Well done Korg!

Michael Hedstrom a part-time user from USA writes:
I'm very pleased with the overall sound of the NS5R. Some of the patches are definately a little weak and sound better when blended rather than soloed. I agree with the comments on the patch setup. It's almost like they were all drawn from a hat. But in the big picture you can't go wrong for the price. The sound quality of the music I did using just the NS5R, with no external sound modification, was high enough for Knott's Scary Farm to use at their haunt this year. So obviously I can't say enough good things about it.
