I used to own one of these, bought it used in 1986 and eventually sold it in 1990. It was my second synth (alongside my DW8000 which I bought new in early 1986 and still own). Interface was close to the DW series with the buttons and one-parameter access digital front panel. It got some nice aggressive lead and bass sounds, as well as some very spacey Pink Floydish pads. You really needed to run it through some effects to get the best out of it. I liked the arpeggiator and one-chord hold button a lot. Not a bad synth, can be had very cheap these days. Basically the same as a PolySix but with DCOs and a digital control panel, which makes it much less desirable than the PolySix that has lots of knobs.

An okay synth ? The Poly61 is the king of analogue BASS the king of electro synths! This baby out basses a Juno 106 without even trying. It has a real gutsy sound and plenty of CHARACTOR! You'll get futuristic spacey sounds and cutting leads that are second to none aswell as those awesome bass programs. If you want to hear what a Poly61 can do check out "Hashim's" Al- Naafiysh (THE SOUL) An alltime classic electro track. Put the poly61 with an 808 drum/machine and a vocoder & you've PURE Electro heaven. Long live the awesome Poly61...

An ok synth. Better than many have suggested. Not a polysix but better than a lot of cheap synths out there like the EX800 etc. Some good things goin on though the DAC is nasty. A good budget synth. Some have midi. Nice chord traking.

Gary a hobbyist user from USA writes:
This was my very first synth, some of my earliest and best ideas came from messing with this keyboard. I had some guitar pedals, an analog delay and a flanger, that I ran it through, and a HUGE bass amp that I wish I still had. I had the Korg "super drums" that sounded great at the time, I remember being able to sync the 2 up and use the drum machine to trigger (this was just before midi came out). This board taught me how to program, but I always hated the buttons you had to use. Overall I loved it, I traded it (and that amp) for some rims.... I got more use out of my Korg!

Tim Gadd a hobbyist user from Australa writes:
I bought a Poly-61 back when it was first released, and only had it for about two weeks. Reason? A few days after I bought it, Yamaha released the DX7. I took one look atthe specs, and rang the shop up and asked if I could 'upgrade'. In the meantime though I recorded two songs with it, one of which proved to be one of my most popular. Listening back to those tracks, it had great fat bass and lead sounds and nice organ. The strings sound so similar to the DX7 that I actually thought I'd used the DX on that track until I recently discovered otherwise. Based on me recollections, and those two recordingsI made, it would probably be a good value synth today. I'd certainly grab one again if one came up at a good price.
