I've owned Poly 61's for several years, and it has a special place in my heart. I'll forget about it for awhile and get involved in other synths, but every time I come back to it, I realize what a cool board this is. Lot's of fun. Easy as dirt to use (if you understand basic analoge synthesis). I can always seem to coax something new and unexpected with the 61'. The limitations of the Poly 61 are its' strong points. For example: think of the arpeggiator as a lfo and play it as a monosynth. A Fantastic value. So cheap, so underrated, buy them by the truckload. The 61M is nice to have, but the midi implementation is very limited. Use tape backup. Quick, cheap, easy, and far less volitile than a hard-drive. Great beginner's board, and could be a unique and potent part of anyone's arsenal.

Don`t make a mistake. The P-61 is NOT a BEGINNER Synth. No synth is a beginner synth if you know how you get what u want. I`ts quiet good for dirty, lashy, grabby and lo-fi killer soundz. Pure energy - just know what to do........

The P-61 was my first one. I bought it 1986 and I loved it`s makeable basses and crappy sounds. And now, 16 years later, I`m proud to use my baby again an again. In every production it gives me the illness I miss in my others. I love that sucker........

Richard Murray a hobbyist user from Scotland writes:
Bought mine new when the model first came out. Some good analogue sounds can be had. Clear controls layout and easy to program. Limited range of programmability. Nice joystick for pitchbend and modulation. Useful arpeggiator. Keyboard not touch-sensitive. No MIDI, unless you get the later 61M model or get a retrofitted unit. Distinctive appearance.
