Ren van der Wouden a hobbyist user from The Netherlands writes:
In february 1994 I bought the poly 61 for a very reasonable price because some people regard this machine as an outcast. I think it isn't!! The poly 61 has an unique sound structure. I agree that the programfacilities are limited, but the instrument has a place for its own. It's one of my favorites together with DW8000 in a very succesful marriage. I traded my first poly 61 in back in april 1995. I always regretted doing this. In march 2001 rebought the poly 61 starring again next to the DW8000.

Paul Kondig a hobbyist user from U.S.A. writes:
THis is a fogotten synth, that I feel deserves some recognition. It is straigt forward to use synth. With all the parameters printed ont the front pannel, geeting lost is next to impossible. Good starter synth, for the beginnig musican. Can be had for around $200.00 from a dealer. Known a few people who paid $55.00 for one. I knew one person who pulled one from a dumpster and get it to work. Onee of my favorites. Not too flashy, but simple.

Steve Smith a professional user from Australia writes:
I think the critics are all suffering from filter fatigue. The Poly-61 served me well on the road for 7 years. Great strings, Great synth sounds, Great organ - yup worth what I paid for it. Totally reliable and good fun. I used it with rock bands and with 12-piece big bands.

For its day, there was no better synth in its price range. Roland Juno 106 at the same price were thin by comparison. I used mine with a Roland Piano Module MKS20 on the road for years and both lasted. If you carved a dick-hole in the front panel like I did some of you critics would be more enamoured.

Jeremiah M Stanfill a hobbyist user from USA writes:
This instrument is not a bad instrument for the price and can cut well on any mix if You use it just right. I've noticed if the filter is muted half the values (which seem to be exponential) it seems to take the ridgedity out of the digital oscillators and can actually sound quite warm. As far as a multi-purpose instrument *guffaw* but it does what it does and it does well and so what about the ridged settings -- You get good sounds real quick and whoopi-doo if there is no portamento -- perfect for me because I don't promote it like many who abuse it on too many recordings. Not perfect, but respect it for what it has likewise for the Prophet-5.

a part-time user writes:
After the Juno 106 the best synth Ive owned for the price. Try triggering the Arpeggiator with a TR 606 or similar and add a little distortion... if it weren't for the goddam awful digi style user interface It would be a true acid monster.
