This thing rocks! Especially when you want some bass and that korg lead sounds are so cool! A cheap Juno killer

I love the Poly 800's! I've owned about 4 since they were released... I kept selling them to buy better, more 'professional' synths like Jupiters, Junos but always felt the need to own one again. I have a mk2 now and it can hold it's head up high alongside my JP6, System 100 etc (so bollocks to all you doomsayers!) The very limitations that everyone seems to bag out are what give the "plastic fantastic" it's character. The single filter, (ch)easy step sequencer and 'plasticy' DCO's make it a unique sounding machine. The best sonic characteristic of the 800 is when the overworked filter can be set to drastically "open up" when you enter a high note after a load of low bass notes...sweet. I quite often have the internal sequencer chugging along with Cubase, just randomly chuck in a bunch of notes (like you do on a 303)and hit play, great fun... and that's what the 800 is all about, fun! And if you don't want to take my word for it I recently had an 'electronic muso' over the other day, and his favourite sounding synth out of my collection? Yep, the 800! (OK, it was until he heard the System 100 anyway!!!) So go buy one, they're a steal.

I think many of the reviewers on here have been much too harsh. This synth may not be as flexible as many of it's more expensive counterparts, but for its relatively cheap selling price you get a very nice beginner synth. Its also great for making all sorts of bizarre noises, which I find is a real plus. Bell/chime sounds are wonderful too.
I haven't had this sucker for very long yet, but I'm already loving it. Just keep in mind that it really doesn't seem as though it was intended to be at the center of anyone's work, but it becomes truly useful as accompaniment to a song.

I have a Polly 800ii and quite like it. I haven't had the memory problems but then I haven't sequenced it much. I have saved my banks with Techno Toys MidiHack. I highly recommend using this tool. You can get it here: TechnoToys As far as comparing this to full blown professional synths, I really wouldn't. This isn't quite a toy, but rather a somewhat slimmed down lightweight analog synth. I'd probably rank on it as well if I didn't see it this way. This is a fun piece and a good buy at $175 US or under. I got mine for $135. : ) It is very light and pretty compact and it runs on batteries. It's the perfect travel synth - extremely light as well. You can cary it with one hand! The sounds are okay - really pop sounding. Decent pads, tinkle sounds, and brass. It also has a nice Decay effect. I give it a 4 for portability, affordability, and simplicity. If you are looking for a center piece synth don't bother. If you're looking for a light portable anolog pop-synth that you can lounge on the couch with or take camping with you get it. Also, it can run on standard C Batteries!!! No annoying wires but your headphones to deal with when on the road or on the couch. Nice camping or hotel synth. : )

This was the first synth I ever picked up used in a seedy pawn shop downtown.. and I've been in love with it ever since. My friends discouraged me from it, the internet reviews discouraged me from it, but I was willing to try it out. Wow. Forget most of the presets, but after I spent a few days getting to know a little bit of synthesis and programming, I was creating some truely strange and cosmic sounds on the little beast. My critical friends were amazed at the sonic possibilities of the thing, and the fat, booming, scary sounds that shrieked from its circuitry! anyhow, this devil can make some very spooky, sci-fi space sounds, and some very rich warm pads. exactly what I want in a synth. The midi is absolute crap I've found, so I just sample the patches and use em that way. there's a lot of them around, so snatch one up, and start playing with the power.
