the kr55 is great.it has a nice 48 preset beats, but you can fade in/out the sounds with the mixer knobs(they are really tiny).the sounds are cool electro sort of like a cr8000...rock 1-12 or at least a few of them were used by depeche mode and cabaret voltaire a long time ago....looks like a fisher price typerwriter!!!got mine for 55$ on the ebay. i think you can modify it easily to have sep outs.i have to get off my pooper and open the unit up to see what's what in there... i give it a 4 out of 5,it is an old preset box, better off getting the kr55b.it has 2 times the presets.

It's a sweet little drummachine with lots of patterns. the kick and snare are very nice and retro. you can have great fun when you let it run in sync with yer monopoly/polysix/MS series etc. There is enough variety in the patterns and i find them quite usefull for electro and hip hop. It's a nice machine that can be found for a nice price. i'll give it a 4

The reviewer is a JERKOFF. Plain and simple. He probably is running it through a rinky-dink, cheeze-doodle, amateur setup. Couple that with the fact that he doesn't know how to use the SWING feature, and voila: A jerkoff who doesn't know what he has, or how to use it.

That being said...let's just remember that the sound sources are ANALOG - not digital. I find the sounds full of character, and very usable for electronic/dance music. With a little bit of EQ, and tweaking...I have this thing shaking the walls. It is every bit as good as a CR-78 (which I also own), and has a different sound that the ubiquitous, hackneyed 808, and 909 stuff.

If you sample these sounds with a good sampler - you have a palette of great analog drum sounds to create with. I wonder if there is a MIDI kit for it? Hmmmmmm.....

Bottom line...it's a great box for analog drums. If you are tired of Roland's usual suspects - try this bad boy out! And f*ck what anyone else says!
