My first Synth, bought in 1981. still love it. Have had about 20 synths after it. most modern digital synths. but no digital synth can make the sounds the korg does. its not a moog or arp, but this thing has hit own character. if you want extrem analog sounds , then this is the machine for you

Oh, how I love this thing's warped, evil, cold sounding sickness. It's housed in a case that looks like something from the old Dr. Who show...that, it's insane flexibility, and it's external signal input make it something I will have to be starving and on the verge of homelessness to ever, ever, ever part with. Yeah, they cost a lot. Go and get a cheesy digital imitation if you don't want to pony up that kind of dough...but you will never convince me and a thousand others that it's even remotely the same. This is one of those tools that is truly worth the hype.

Aaahhhh, the ms-20, who doesn't like it? This badboy has some wicked sounds up his sleeve, I love him! I hook him up with my 10, put sounds in it, stop patching when my cables run out and he looks just so cool! He has personality and personality goes a long way!

frazier a hobbyist user from usa writes:
The MS-20 is still something of a well kept secret in the analog world. As a long time electronic music experimenter (1970's) I can say this thing is probably better suited for the studio. Not for the quick and dirty crowd. One needs to sit down and really learn what is going on with the control voltages and modulation. As such it excels. It seems to occupy a space somewhere between an Arp 2800 and 2600. I would prefer a 24db filter but we all know where those live. External signal processing (for an analog) is one of the main strengths. Coupled with a modern digital waveform sampling keyboard one is well on their way to home/studio - ambient/trance/chill/whatever fun.

Overall, the sound is not as full as the Mini but the experimentation capabilities are FAR superior. The MS-20 is not quite in the same league as a 2600 but it is not as expensive and fragile. Not enough VCO's? Get an Oberheim SEM and you are in true studio modular territory for a fraction of the cost. Stack an MS-50 expansion system and SQ-10 sequencer on top and you think you are looking at Keith Emerson's Moog 55 in 3/4 scale....ahhhh gooooood. Cheers space travelers.
