Have My K2000VP for about 3 months now. Immidiately upgraded sample ram to 64mb. Hooked up an external 2X SCSI CD Rom, and Syquest Drive with no problems. Had a problem trying to hook up an external SCSI hard drive though. To get the most out of this machine you need the most current OS 3.87-which I don't have, and the P-Ram option-which I don't have. Some nice onboard sounds, but I only use them 50% of the time. I just started to program sequences with the K2000, and have no problems. The sampling is great. Sound creation is cumbersome, and I have yet to create anything from scratch. I basically load samples and tweak them to get new sounds. I am only using 5% of this machine's capabilities and have been satisfied. I guess the key to satisfaction for me is I use samples that I like, and go from there. My only drawback is sample ram is not backed up so I need to save, and reload all the time. If you edit the onboard samples the programs are stored in P Ram, and backed up. I guess by getting the Rom-Blocks upgrade & daughter board I could have available to me a lot more rom samples to work with, but for me loading samples from floppy or CD is good enough. I think the next thing I will upgrade on my K2000 is the P-Ram Option at a cost of $300-400.00US. But first I want to get the hard drive to work.

Just LOVE it..!! Had i a K2000RS for a couple of year now, and during that time loads of gear have passed thru my studio, but the K2 is still king in my house, best digital filters EVER created and thrust me i've tried them all (allmost!!)
OS is a bit outdated, but hey it's from 91 so it's O.K. and the 24 voice polyphony dont bother me at all, coz it's punching out 24 FAAAAT ones.
FX suck tough, i never use it, it's CRAAP..
V.A.S.T....Is this ahead of it's time or what!?!? i've come up with some insane sounds with it, and all the realtime controll you've got is remakable. Personally i think it's "analog" varm ,i've got a nord modular which is also a awsome machine, but i think the K2 is warmer and has more bite!!
Finally, if you have a little patiance and couriosity you can have this machine do wonders for you, now it's relativly cheap and dont worry about it beeing old, for me it kicks the lot..SAMPLERS & SYNTHERSIZERS..

Hi, I've got a Kurzweil K2000kb with sampel option.This instrument is really cool! It sounds warm, and the piano sound is really great. The analoge sounds are perfect.The orchestral sounds are just real! The mean thing is, you must know how to make the sounds! Factory sounds alone wan't do it. Just try to make your own sounds. The manuel will show you how to do it, and you must keep on practice. The sample option is good, but a stand alone sampler like the Emu 6400 has more options. But in any way the K2000 sounds better than a Akai sampler, even better than a Akai S6000!! If you can find one for $850 buy it. I had a Akai S6000 I throughed it away, and I bought a Kurzweil K2000kb with sample option and a Emu 6400 Ultra. This is the end. Greetings Petrus from Holland.

Had the K2000 v3 for about two years. Loved its potential for hard-as-nails sounds, its 'analog' fatness and it's sample-capabilities. Didn't likes: the effects were so basic and bland, can't really understand why anyone would like 'em. Also, my diskdrive broke down FOUR TIMES IN ONE YEAR! Maybe it was the carelesness of the dealer, dunno, but it was the reason I sold it.
However, for f***king up samples and creating fat analog sounds (thanks mostly to oscillator-level distortion, so that distorted sounds maintain definition and 'body'), this thing is king.
Maybe I'll buy one of the Kurzweil's again in the future. However, I think that the feature-set of the series doesn't match its price-point anymore. There're LOTS of fat synthesizers and samplers out there, and Kurzweil has been extremely lazy and careless in developing new stuff and matching the price/performance of competitors.
The K2000's one fat bastard though...

Being without a K2000 for some time, I was again amazed with the power my new K2000 VP has to offer. New OS is superb, now I can load programs and samples from my Akai S2000, right from the zip disks I used with it (s2000 has a really stupid file system..)
Also, I downloaded in an hour 148 banks of programs to k2000 on a zip disk. K2000 could read all of them right away. And the stuff available on the net is pretty good!
I guess people who underestimate this unit don't know how to use it properly. I have an korg N1R in my set, I can assign any of it's 4 knobs to control various aspects of sound..
Only drawback is the digitech fx unit. It's good, but you can only assign one multieffect on the sounds at once.
