I have never really had a problem with my PC 88mx. Sure there are synth/controllers with better action, but for the seven years I have had mine, I have no complaints. I guess I do not have the heavy hand the others do.
The only time I have had to take it to the shop was about six months ago to replace the battery (I was having another synth fixed, I was going there anyhow, and the PC88mx's battery was at the point where it may start to lose its memory, so I paid someone to changed it).
I use mine as a controller, but have used many of the sounds (acoustic pianos, clavs, strings, synth pads, even the guitars) as they are or through filters and effects, to augment the sounds of the other synths I have.
Sure it's heavy so it's a bear to move, and the action is not the best, but I am still happy with my purchase. If you are looking for a nice used controller for a hobbyist studio (as long as it has not been abused), this will do fine.

I also hate wall warts!
I bought mine used a long time ago. After too many years, the battery is showing low. Does anyone know, is this user serviceable? The manual just says to take it to the dealer.
The highest note key became stuck shortly after I got it. I figured I dropped a guitar pick in there or something. Since I can live with '87, I haven't been excited enough to open it up. I have had no other problems with the keys and no need for repair.
Its size and weight make it a bit difficult to move around, but that's what you get when you buy an '88. I got mine before the MX came out, bummer.
Sounds are fine with me. I also run a Proteus module off it when I want some better sounds. I enjoy using it for live performance and home studio controller.

Allright so the PC-88. It has some great sounds to use and some really lush voices that are easy to switch to in performance. Since i'm using this keyboard exclusivley for performance, mostly at church 3 or so times a week I haven't looked into much of the midi settings. However, I've had this keyboard a year and a half and have already had to replace about 15 broken keys. The spring bed is junk, and the amount my church is paying to get it repaired is over 500 dollars. So now our worship service is going without keyboard.. so i've got my epiphone gibson out play guitar at service but I greatly miss my keyboard. Overall great sounds, very good on performance, I would prefer a Korg over this keyboard any day however. But it's good for the money if you are willing to spend mucho bucks getting the keys repaired because I promise if you play this thing regularly it's going to happen no matter what unless you bearly touch the keys!

I've owned the PC88 for about five years now, playing it in church 3 times a week and on the road about once a week. I have had to have the internal battery replaced twice already (and it needs it again) and I have had some problem with the foot pedal. Recently, I had 4 or 5 keys break on me while I was in the middle of a gig...depressing but was bound to happen sooner or later with the very heavy hand I have. (I have been known to wear out hammers on acoustic pianos too.) Love: *piano sounds (awesome acoustic guitar too) *weighted key action *ease of use *wonderful strings!!! Hate: *TOO HEAVY *multiple internal battery replacements *very poor service on instrument *keys breaking

Just talked to Annette at Kurzweil product support (253)589-3200 x103. They acknowledged the problem with the Fatar keys and will send out replacement hammer covers made of a more pliable material for all 88 keys for free. However, they will not pay for labor (local estimate 0f 2 hours at $60 an hour for a total of $120). Looks like I'll go ahead and tackle it myself.
Not horrible product support but this is by no means excellent. (Ever deal with Mackie? Now that's the way a company should be run.)
By the way, if you have to take one of these apart, you don't have to take out the screws that hold the side pieces in.
