Hi.

Well, I bought my Kurzweil 3 years ago, from a friend, she bought it as new 4 years ago. It never crashed, and I'm quite surprised of the harsh review here. I even leave my keyboard powered sometimes a few weeks without any interruption and it stills works great. This keyboard is marvalous to play and record with.

Maybe the other poster was refering to another Kurzweil keyboard?

I forwarded one of the "reveiws" here to a bona fide Kurzweil repair center, as named by Kurzweil. Here is a response to one of these postings: "It is true that Kurzweil had a capacitor problem, but the person ranting about the issue is obviously mis-informed and rather uneducated about the whole thing. It wasn't Kurzweil's fault the manufacturer made a ENTIRE LOT that had a 90% failure ratio within a year. I made quite a chunk of change on that issue too, but that was also 5 years ago. Why so bitter?"

I understood why most of you dislike PC88 Keyboard Action. Late PC88's came with an improved Fatar Action, more reliable, heavier keyfeel and more responsive. I've played another PC88 (early one) and discovered that the keyfeel is much lighter than my keyboard (a late Pc88)...

Ok, when i was buying this baby I was really afraid due to hard reviews on this site. But I find the keyboard at a low price on my country and bought it inmediatly.

I understand the people who dislikes this Controller, most of them paid 1500 or 2000 dollars for it. But I only paid 920 and this is the Best keyboard for that Price. I always wanted to buy an A90EX before playing the PC88, but it cost twice here in my country.

I will defend it 'til the end.

1) The Components are Cheap and Nasty: Ok, maybe you 're right, but i'm a musician, and the only thing I want on a keyboard are: Sounds, functions, and feeling. Of course, reliability is very important, but music is the most important thing.

2) The samples are very old and sometimes sound very Cheesy: Maybe you're right, but for the Price Range, i didn't found anything sounding better. ¿Have you heard Korg SGPROX? The sounds on that keyboard REALLY SUCKS! AND IT COSTS MUCH MORE! (almost in my country).

3) It crashes for no aparently reason: Ok, that's why i'll give it a 4,5. Anyway, i've opened it up and removed lots of dust. It hasn't crashed yet :)

4) Keyboard is Crappy: No Way, this is the best Keyboard Feeling i've found Around, MUCH BETTER THAN KORG SGPROX and ALESIS QS8. I could only beat it against A90EX.

That's what i have to say. If I had a lot of money, maybe i should bought a PC2X, but for less than the half price, i've obtained a Great Controller for playing live with my MIDI Setup (i own 2 midi sound modules).

Sounds: 5 Price: 5 Keyboard: 5 Reliability: 4 Average: 4.75 (i'll round to 5)

The PC88 is an awesome keyboard. Key action is good, and sampled piano sounds great even through a mediocre sound system. Organ and string voices are very good too. My only problem is that I'm not much of a user-manual-reader, and there's a lot of functionality built into the thing that's not readily apparent from a cursory view of the interface.
