the m1 is awonderfull warm synth from the 80th it is not a tweeking acid funk synth with big bad sounds for pacman rave in your basket. no the m1 is a class of its own in strings piano horns etc.. thats the big goal of the m1. sound like a tuba horn mixed with a warm string pad .incrdible those are the sounds that made him big for me. i produced a lot of aphex twin stylish tracks. mad breakbeats with string and horns. 4 oldskool ponits

I just picked up an M1 from Ebay part nostalga, and part because I sold one I owned back in 1990. In 1993 I picked up a Yamaha sy85 and have been using it since. The box came today with the M1. It was like getting back by lost child that I gave up years ago. I powered it up. What only 100 sounds and 100 combinations? I am not sure what I saw in it back then. I know, it was the only game in town, that's it.
I am boxing this baby up and saving it as a collectors items. Other then the textures for film scores, and syth pads the sounds suck. For what you could buy a used yamaha sy85 for man I am telling you the sy85 is 10 time more a syth. Better sounds, floppy drive, sample ram, dual processors. Sure you could start to mess around with the programming, but you also can swith with, plus dump in any sampe you want to the SY85. Unless you plan on buying one as a collectors item I am telling you get a used sy85 for $100 less. See the reviews on the SY85 on this site and see for yourself.

Albert, what are you going on about! This a site reviewing the wonderful M1. Not the bloody awful string synth Trident... Was there ever a worse synth? The M1 is so usable as many have said. Also strong and reliable. A musician's instument. USA analogues?? What's that got to do with the M1? Be honest would you use a painfully unreliable Memorymoog in your set more than an M1? The M1 is just great. Let's face it, Korg got it really right. You see them being used every where after all these years...in bars, clubs, theatres and stadiums! Old analoues have there place, I agree. However, we need romplers to really make music and the M1 is one of the most friendly in this respect. In multy mode the M1 is massively powerful and expressive. In normal performance mode it is clean. The M1 will never let you down. I think of my 2 as old friends!! I think of my Prophet5 as an unwelcome guest.

Olive Garden does not taste that great either. I have to aggree with "Let's be honest", whenver I am in a pinch and need a solid keyboard for a gig the M1 is what bails me out. The String and Choir combis are hard to beat.

I got M1 for hk$1500 near with hard case. the looking is ugly and only one panio sound output. after a hard trying on the buttons and replace the battery. I love this gear very much. the sound is nice and warm compare with todays syn., the build quality is very good. I love old machine more than nowadays....
