What can I say? I use this synth up to this day in almost in every production I make. It has just great ambient pads, saxophones and strings. The sounds cut thru the mix in a good way. Loving it cause it has such a musical feel to it. The superb effect section can do wonders with the simple synth engine. The downside is boring filters with no resonance, many pretty unusable 1980´s waveforms and some hissy noise here and there. As a multi timbral workstation it is very weak today but if you use it solo with two effects it can stand out amazingly. A true pcm classic!

one of the ultimate pad machines. programming is not very deep, but as long as you steer clear of slap bass and trumpet sounds, everything you come up with on this synth oozes lushness and a very warm, orchestral quality. the beauty lies in the sampling artefacts and limited memory - it lends the m1 a certain abstraction that newer, more realistic machines lack. korg got a lot of things right with this one: very good keyboard (only wish the korg z1 had this keyboard action) and warm sounding effects (they, too are superior to the z1´s, which came out almost 10 years later... basically only a rompler, but the sounds are heartbreakingly beautiful, like on old string ensembles. you just want to play and play and ...

I recently got an M1REX. I also have later KORG synths like 01/W, Wavestation SR, etc., but I believe M1 has better sounds.
Here I uploaded M1REX .mp3 sound examples on my site. Please take a look and tell me what you think.

I have my M1 about 3 years.I bought it because i've heard many positive opinions about. The sound is cristal, very high quality on audio output. It has very good organs,e.pianos(esp.E.Piano4-based on DX7 classic sound)and pads.I also love its Piano sound - specific, deep, sharp,a little bit plastic...many people says that M1 piano is lack and unnatural, but hey...it's early 90's stuff!I Have also Roland JV50 with SC55 and pianos on it just "drowning" in live gigs.Only M1 piano is so bright and selective, and "sit in a mix" so well. The best for rock, and also - jazz gigs! The sounds are very characteristic and recognizable in many music productions.Only polyphony is too small...especially in combi mode. That's the only serious reason that i gave "4".But overall - this synth rocks!Drum kits are powerfull and just kicks! I'm sorry for my english, but i've learned only from TV.
