Olive Garden does not taste that great either. I have to aggree with "Let's be honest", whenver I am in a pinch and need a solid keyboard for a gig the M1 is what bails me out. The String and Choir combis are hard to beat.

I got M1 for hk$1500 near with hard case. the looking is ugly and only one panio sound output. after a hard trying on the buttons and replace the battery. I love this gear very much. the sound is nice and warm compare with todays syn., the build quality is very good. I love old machine more than nowadays....

When all's said and done...the M1 can always dish up the sound you want. Everyone plays one. Which synth gets played the most in your set up. Not the mini moog, not the prophet 5, not the latest Roland. No, it's the good ol' M1. If ever a synth was worth 5 marks it was the M1. The best selling synth of all time. The most playable synth of all time. Better than a va, better than analogue...better than a D50.... the M1. Sold more...played more ....nuff said!

I've been using an M1 since 10 years, and I agree to the fact that it didn't age well. IMHO it has many completely useless sounds, I think that many patches impressed when the synth was just released, but were totally useless. On the opposite side, many Roland synths had and have lower quality but much more useful sounds. I still use, anyway, M1 for piano sound (not very good but well working in a band), violins (very good) and voices (very good). Some other good sounds are vibe, some percussions, some classical instruments. Forget it for synth solo sounds, slap basses, drum sounds (good but boring), organs, electric pianos. BTW, this keyboard is a tank! It still is well in shape although I made everything with it.
