A good selection of interesting sounds are possible from this synthesiser. However, I'm not sure that it is as devastating as some people have suggested here. Introduce some modulation and it thins out dramatically. The tuning is awful and very annoying when you realise it has died during a mix and you have to start playing again! It seems like brain washing has set in. A reviewer has said that you should lock your moog away and rarely play it. What is the point of owning one if you must do that? As for 5 marks. My Triton is worth that as is my k2500. Not a minimoog. no way.

Anyone who gives this synth a rating of less than 5 either doesn't own one, or doesn't know how to use it.
The mini is super, super cool. It's limitations, the tuning, the monophonic keyboard, key contacts, make it the most charming synthesizer ever made. It has a mind of it's own, and I suspect that somewhere in there is a daemon who'd rather possess a mini than live in a human.
I paid 1,200 for mine, and have had it serviced once. I paid too much for it, sure. Am I sorry, no way. Will I ever sell it, never. It's just too damn cool.
This is a synth that you won't get any professional use out of. You should expect to keep it locked up in your room, and occasionally use it for recording. If you want to lug something around, get a Cat or a Pro One, or a Micromoog, and leave this one for someone who will love it.
I've owned one for two years and everytime I turn it on it surprises me. Do yourself a favor and get one. But take care of it.

Ahah, that's a good one : how can you sound "original" with an over used mini moog?! :o))) ANyway, the minimoog is a great choice if you're dying for phat basses. That's it really. But at today's prices, it's a steal. Great for its bass sound and analog filters. Now if these features will be enough for you to pay the bill...

I used one back in the mid 70's through the early 80's. It had a great fat sound, but had to be constantly retuned. If I were still playing, I'd want one just because you can tell a Mini Moog by it's sound. Was it a pain in the ass, yes. Was it worth the pain? Definately. Is it worth $1500 and up? Maybe in the 70's.

Well i've had mine for about 4 months now and i think it's great, mine is from Aug 74 it was built a month after i was born. i bought this baby from the original owner, and in great shape, the tuning is rock solid 10 seconds after i turn it on it's tune, the thing i don't understand is why people rank on it so much? is it jealousy? you can't beat the filter it is awsome!!! i find myself coming up with great Bass and Lead patches everyday, hey if you think it's a crappy synth maybe you should go back to playing Casio preset shit synths, Hey it's not my fault you can't program!
