OK - I bought my Opus 3 NEW back in the day (I know I'm dating myself BAD!) It's been in a road case for years so I'm glad to see there's still some interest in it. One problem - the foam in my case broke down and now I have this stuff stuck all over the synth. Any suggestions for cleaning it? Or should I just take it in and have someone do it?

my first analog synth, and first moog. bought it for $200 at a local music store in 1999. it had the original box and manual as well, which was cool. i played it in just about every band i was in at the time. you can get beautiful sounds out of this thing, cut the attack back, tweak the resonance on your strings, and run it thru the vcf, just amazing. or distort the hell out of it with a electro-harmonix bass synth, that always gets some interesting textures. i have even taken a tip from my rogue's owners manual, and ran the opus into the rogue audio in, that has gotten some great results. the stereo outs are a plus, if you're into experimenting with effects, ping-pong delays, etc. it being polyphonic is a plus as well. after years of abusing the slider for the vcf contour, and emphasis the vcf and strings/chorus stopped working properly. but, with a few strategic solders, she's back to 100%. i've seen these go for $500-$812(really!) on ebay, and i can't stop laughing.

I bought a Opus 3 off ebay about 6 months ago, when I got it the strings section was a little iffy, playing at only 30% the volume of the brass and organ. Other than that this thing has been very reliable, until lately the tuning knob hasnt been working well, but I think thats because of all the black gunk on the circuit board that I need to clean.
Which comes to my question, anyone else have problem removing the master volume knob? I need to take this off to clean the circuit board off, but it won't budge!

Yup. Overpriced, but still pretty cool if you can score one for a few bills. Mine was worth the $275 I paid, but, as many others have stated, the string section is iffy. On mine, they work only when the chorus is set to ON, and make a loud CLICK occasionally. Must be a short of some kind due to a design flaw. Anyway, when I get the dough, I'll definitely have it repaired, because this thing sounds totally insane if you tweak it just right. One of my favorite tricks is to set the brass section to follow a ringing gospel type organ tone with a resounding near subsonic "BWOOOOOOOWWWWW" desending in tone until it shakes the damn floor. Not much of a purist's "Synth" like a Mini or a Prophet or anything, but the weirdest organ you will ever lay hands on...I tend to use it much more than the (also currently overpriced) Prodigy. And sent thru my modded Rat Shack Moog's filter input...it just sounds like some ugly drug nightmare version of a tentshow revival organist. Anyone out there who knows about the cause of this common string section problem, send an email...it'd be nice to see a fix posted on the net somewhere.

I don't know what the problem is with a few reviewers of the opus 3. This Moog is brilliant. I have played next to solina strings, i think the opus 3 wastes the solina. The moog strings have much more control and sound just as good, and strings are only 1/3 of this keyboard! The organ can sound like a cheesy farfisa or a hammond, lots of versatility. With the brass, you have the most control, but the sounds i like best out of them are the Beatles Abbey Road swelling moog brass. This is an awesome synth! Don't believe the other reviews. It is a lot different from a mini,prodigy,rogue etc. It is polyphonic, so it has more in common with a polymoog or memory moog, but it is a lot simpler. This is moog is unusual and essential!!!
