A FEW CORRECTIONS I OWN THREE SETS OF TAURUS. AND HAVE PUBLISHED ARTICLES ON THE TAURUS. THERE WERE ONLY EVER TWO MODELS. PRODUCTION MARCH 1975 TO NOVEMBER 1982 I BOUGHT THE LAST SET OF MK1,S FROM NORLIN MUSIC SERIAL NO 1555. THE TAURUS TWO,S WERE CRAP I OWNED A SET AND HAD THEM 2 DAYS AND THEY FELL APART THE WERE IN PRODUCTION FOR JUST UNDER 2 YEARS ENDING 1982 I HAVE THREE SETS OF MK1 AND THEY ARE ALL WORKING PERFECTLY. THE 2,S SOUND NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL THEY ARE A ROGUE SYNTH THAT SIT ON A METAL POLE YOU SCREW INTO THE BASE SO THAT YOU CAN FIDDLE WITH YOUR HANDS NO GOOD TO A BASS PLAYER OR GUITARIST. THE MK1,S YOU DO EVERYTHING WITH YOUR FEET EVEN ADJUSTING THE FILTER. NEVER BUY A SET (YOU WONT FIND ANY IN ONE PIECE THEY DIDNT STAND THE TEST OF TIME CHEERS

How could Tommy have bought his new in 72 when the manufacture period was 76-81....

tommy's right. this is your portable earthquake. i almost gave up hope finding one but -lucky me- i stumbled over one this summer. its range of sounds and variety of possibilities is awesome, despite its age. it rumbles and growls, it's sweet and spacey, it takes your songs to heights till they burst. i don't know the taurus II, but i can't imagine it could match this one. if you see one, get it!

The Taurus 1's are the only one to consider. Taurus 2's are a joke. These are what always separated my bands from the rest of the bands. People wonder why the band sounds like gods. It's the bass pedals folks. They are very reliable and only have one or two buggy problems which are easily repaired by any competent technician. Those problems being note drift during the release cycle and maybe buzzy sound from a bad 4066 chip. That's about it.

Bought mine new in 72 and have never looked back. Through a large P.A. with subs, this synth moves the walls! The 'programmed preset' allows you to set the basic range as high as a mini, and use of the portamento in this range works well with a quick change to the Taurus preset as the note goes all the way down to the new register - a heavenly four-octave sweep! Mine has had only minor servicing (cleaning) and has been carted around unprotected since the box came apart. Stable, useful, and coveted by other bassists. My portable earthquake.
