i have a my minimoog since 1995 and i have nothing bad to say about it it is just a maising keyboard i met bob moog a the namm show in los angeles and he help me to gate it in chape i pute a new oscillateur and a new set of knobs. i know the moog look hugly but it sound like a beast

The minimoog is not an all-in-one synth. It is a monosynth. For being the first synth made for musicians, it is suprisingly versatile, though. I think critics of the minimoog simply prefer newer synths, pre or post midi, that give them more tuning stability, more smooth sound, etc.
But there are a few things this synth still excels at even to this day, and for this reason it will always be a value. 1) the Moog Ladder Filter. This shapes the sound and creates a richness that is till being emulated to this day. 2) The fast attack envelope. This assists the filter and you can get a click sharp attack effective for danceable bass lines and sharp lead lines. 3)3 independent oscillators. Each oscillator may be tuned in its own range, you have a huge range you can have with them playing together or separately. Plus these and the noise/external input section may be mixed to whatever level you want them at. 4)The 3rd Oscillator may be controlled by or function independantly of the keyboard, is capable of sub sonic LFO frequencies and can control the filter amount or the other 2 oscillators. This gives you a wider variety of sound possibilities than other synths with a dedicated LFO that can't go into audible frequencies. 5)Lastly, everything is accessible with nice big round knobs for tweaking!
Even if this synth hadn't been the first one to come out and therefore the one that all the others were emulating and using as a benchmark for analog subtractive synthesis, the minimoog would have been a classic synth to own. Easy interface, tweakability, great bass lines, and great lead lines. Plus you can make lots of weird sounds with them as well. Whether or not you don't like any of the limitations you have to admit this is the best simple non-modular monophonic synth available.

I think people that have something negative to say about the Mini just haven't heard one in person. Sorry, but how can you get better? Its sounds so amazing I can't even put it into words. It drips fat. Its quality through and through. 4 sounds? Its changing constantly. Its evolving. Its alive!!! Fool. 5 out of 5

I think the Andromeda sinks it without trace as Brian says below.. WD obviously has never played one. It just sounds sooo cool and is totally analogue in its sound. Difficult to work with?? I don't think so! It just does so much and has so many features that you have to spend some time getting to know it. Expensive??? Nothing is as overpriced as a mini. I do like the mini. The prophet is much more versatile. The mini does about 4 good sounds that are difficult to replicate on most, not all, synths. I like the smooth lead sound..done well on the Korg Z1..(B100). The bass is quite good. If you're a player or have a working studio get an Andromeda. If you are a collector, the mini's for you. Mine was a pain in the arse to keep in tune and fully working. Repaies are expensive. My local repair shop thought it was worth a couple of bucks. When I told them it was worth thousands they laughed in disbelief. Then refused to fix it.

The Prophet is great but there's no way to say it sounds better than a Mini; they have different sounds. On sound quality alone most would take a Mini IMO.
-Tuning is only a problem on some of the older Minis. To generalize is foolish.
-The Andromeda is nowhere near the sound of any of the vintage synths and is also user-unfriendly and very expensive.
-Mini and Voyager have similar but not identical sounds, because (1) the Voyager uses chips and (2) the envelopes are different.
