Really cool if you're a freaking geek who can not only play a tune, but also build it. Sounds are amazing and capabilities endless, but not something you can sit down and start doing some tracks in a couple of hours (or years). Useful if run trough cubase vst, or any other sequencer (hopefully DreamStation in the near future), or as an interminable sample fountain.

I think VAZ plus is the better in its arp mode and less RAM requirements. its more immediate than Generator. But Generator is better in its effects section. I use it to distort my dry e.guitar sound. and its a damn kewl multisampler. VAZ fails in these areas. while REtro AS-1 really rocks ..too many patches to play with. All get a 5. Oh yah havent even mention the dreamstation.

a grievously flawed masterpiece. pros: Flexible in the extreme. If you can't do it with native instruments, it probably cant be done. Great sounding.

cons: keydisc copy protection. lose the CD = lose the license; NO exceptions. Not very efficient;RAM hog When it locks up it requires a cold shutdown to revive itself. Very finicky about allocation. User must optimize the latency with allocation settings, and these vary from patch to patch

bottom line: wait for a more competitive market. better softsynths will appear for less money & hassle

Hi ! This Generator is just blowing my mind more and more each time i use it!!!And i'm a very new user!...so God knows where it gonna lead me after a while ! :-) I'm running in it on a PII 400 with a Fiji Turtle Beach soundcard, driving it from a PII 450 with cubase 24 and everything works well.No latency.I'm learning how to use and mix all these modules just by studing the ones that has been made.It really seems there's in this soft the entire world of analog synthesis! Just a question: is anybody in here knows where to find patches (ensemble,instruments...)on the web? I have some very good i could give! Best regards!

I disagree that VAZ is just a toy. I have a feeling that this opinion is based on VAZ+ 1.6... However VAZ Modular 2.0 (just released last week) is a whole other beast. It is actually very similar to Generator in some regards but with simpler but no less powerfull features. It also has some features not even found in Generator like multi-sample support and a much more sophisticated sequencer. Don't get me wrong Generator is a great program, I just feel that a lot of people are gonna have a hard time getting a handle on creating their own synths with it. I feel that VAZ Modular has just about the same level of practical usability but with a much easier interface.
