Bought one of these for $500 NZ a few weeks ago and right off the bat I have to say that it's a solid hardware synth capable of allowing you to make some very nice patches for all kinds of Electronic music including Trance and DNB. I have and have used quite a few pieces of Hardware including a Virus C and listening to the A-Station and comparing the two I am already pleased to say I favor the A-Stations cleaner sound over the Virus which has a Harsher grittier sound ( which can get tiresome to listen to but that's not to say the Virus is worse because in actual fact it's a much much more complex Synthesizing Beast). I really wanted a Novation Supernova but I believe this thing is just as good as long as you can handle making one sound at a time.

I just bought an A station not long ago. It was cheap, and i already have a nova and V station, so i was confident in novations usabilty and sound quality. the biggest downfall with this unit is the lack of a decent size lcd, an on/off switch ( thats rediculous! ) and its not multitimbral. the usual perameters are easy to use, and the sound quality is excellent. id recomend it if your after a cheap,but great sounding synth.

This is a great synth to learn with. No, it doesn't do multitimbral but there are actually a hell of a lot of features built into it considering the price. E.g. frequency modulation, ring modulation, a nice vocoder, arpeggiator, 12/24dB filter select etc. I use it mainly to create sounds from scratch - if I want huge sweeping pads or strings I have other things to do it. It's great at bleeps, swirls, sweeps and dirty organ type sounds! The filter is great too - I tried sampling some sounds from it with my Akai Z8 and the Akai sounds nothing like it when you try to do filter sweeps! So much smoother.

On the downside the menus do take a while to get used to, it should have a bigger display, a sine wave on the LFOs and a power button, but for the price it's great! The manual is informative too.

This is a nice sounding synth. The interface is tricky at first but you do get used to what those digits mean. Nice delay effects. just wish Novation would make patch making software like Korg did with their Microkorg. Did suggest it to Novation but they never replied. Have used it quite a lot in my music and you can check it out at myspace - mdx

I HATE the interface. I'd much rather page through menus all day on a standard lcd than have a bunch of knobs and a crappy 2 digit led. And you still have menus! Most of the functions require you to enter three digits, but you can only see 2 of them. Some of the menus are like 10 pages deep too. That and the buttons feel extremely cheap, like the ones I get on the free pocket calculators from my bank. The knobs are way too close together to work with. Novation should have either made it 2 rackspaces or eliminated about 10 of the knobs for a regular lcd display. If you know how to program a synth you really dont need a million knobs anyway.

Sound quality is alright, but sounds a little thin to my ears. Lack of multitimbrality is lame. Fx are crap. Overall I was unimpressed. My Darkstar XP2 cost less than half as much, is multitimbral, has multiple outs, and sounds just as good if not better through some decent outboard fx. Really! This synth just doesn't do anything for me. To be fair, it was one of the last synths I bought & I own a lot of gear including a Virus C, Microwave XT, Micro Q, Pulse, Jp8080, Ms2000 & Darkstar XP2. This would be a great beginner synth if I was just starting out, but since I already have a good amount of gear it doesn't do anything I can't already do better with one of my other synths. It's a good bargain synth now, as you can get 'em for about $200 - $250 used. I personally just found it didn't do anything for my current setup & operating it was annoying, so I sold it.
