The OBXa is a superb analogue, so easy to use. Best for warm fat sounds, punchy leads and basses, oh not forgetting brass and lush strings. It is fat compared to a Prophet 5 or Jupiter 8/6 (yes I have had these machines side by side), although these machines fantastic have more versatile modulation capabilities and are capable of more subtle sounds. As Miguel says it can't do everything, but what it does do it does very well. You may need another keyboard to compliment it for those thiner, subtler sounds. I know what AnalogueBastard means, the OB8 sounds "cleaner" to my ears, but doesn't quite have the warmth of the OBXa, but still has the Oberheim sound. I would like another OBXa soon.

OBXa, a very nice synthesizer. The strings and pads attain a level of loveliness that far surpasses other machines. It makes a Jupiter 8 and a Prophet sound like shit in the ethereal department, sounds better than a MemoryMoog as well. Nice leads, it's bass is not bad as well, I like it! Can't do everything, but what it does is beautiful. In my opinion, machines like the Virus and the Nova are nothing compared to the older, more expensive Analogs. Popular music is by and large garbage nowadays, and this is one of the reasons why.

I just got my OBXA and I am deeply impressed! Got the "Jump" patch going, unbelievable sound! I can't believe this synth is 22 years old. I will never part with this jewel. Jupiter 8 on the way!
