This thing was fun to build and made great sounds. I would recommend the desktop case as I regretted buying the rack version. This thing makes a great analog sound and got a couple of months of usage before it totally lost its tune and could not be retuned. I am not sure what the problem was faulty component, or faulty construction -my first time using a soldering iron. A cheap way to get analog sound but you don't have to many modulation options.

Very nice, goood for bass parts. I am a bass guitar player trying to recreate those fat sounds like Moog Taurus Bass Pedals. (just need the pedals now!).

I just completed the desk top version and have been playing it for the last few hours. So far I am impressed with the sound, nice and warm. I think that its awsome for bass. I do think the filter could be better though, can not get it to squeek. And the portamento is a bit week. I wish that it had an lfo but hey, cant have everything for 200 bucks. I have added some blue LED's and it looks cool. Given the fact that it is advertised as a bass synth and it is midi and it can be had for about $200, I rate it a decent 4. As a side note I think that it sounds quite like my Rogue Moog when the filter is wide open. (Albeit the Moog is far more versatile).

This is one bad mother. I built it over two days (few hours a day) and I can't stop screwing with it. It is very fat and warm- especially through a heavily driven tube preamp. Though it is quite limited without LFO, sync, or pwm, all those can be added with simple mod schemos found anywhere on the net. The Fatman is very cool with potential to be badass. And where the hell else can you buy a midi analog for a 180 bucks? Time to go pick out a hardwood for the case...

The PAiA FatMan analog synth is the BEST synth for the price and the cost! Under $200 for the kit and you the best part is saying you built it! I bought mine as a kit and bought the desktop case which is cool but I think the Rack would be better to buy. Anyways, the FatMan makes only good bass sounds and it would be better if it had more effects like distortion or something of the sort. ALL IN ALL IT'S A GREAT SYNTH FOR BEGINNERS! It was my first synth and it tought me a lot about how they work! BUY THIS MACHINE IF YOU CAN! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE! IF YOU BUILD IT AND IT DOESN'T WORK, THEN SEND IT TO PAIA AND THEY WILL FIX IT!
