Built my first Fatman about 8 yrs ago. After 2 months, I added all the mods I could find. Great synth for the money! Filters are now on foot pedals and am using a Yamaha WX7 controller. What can I say... Fat sounds especially with sub/octave mod. Very retro and techno at the same time.

I just got this with the brand spanking new desktop case which looks sleak as hell!........I started building it on a thursday and had it done by the next tuesday and by wednesday i added a res max switch and made the filter either LP or BP!......I also extended the range on some of the knobs........As you can see you can see if you are ambitious enough you can really personalize this guy and make it fit your needs........it works great with any cheapo controller but its the most fun with programs like seq-303

I've had the Fatman for about a year now. I love it, I think it is a very good amount of synth for the money. Obviously, it's not a ARP 2600. It's not supposed to be. But with a few outboard fx, you can really coax some interesting sounds out of it. It works great with a cheap MIDI keyboard and perhaps some old guitar boxes (like those that ZOOM made). You can get pretty close to a good TB303 squelch if you have patience. I wish it had some other waveforms, that would make it really wild, but i am not complaining. I think that it's one of those synths that sound boring at first, but if you invest a fair amount of time you can be far more creative than you ever imagined. And I admit, I was a bit disappointed when I finally heard it for the first time, after long hours of labor. But now, I am as happy with it as I am any other synth in my studio. It's a pretty fair lead synth, especially w/distortion. It's also a great synth to learn how the process of synthsis takes place. I'm not an analog slut myself; but I do prefer the Fatman's knobs to LCD's and soft-keys anyday.

If you are smart enough to put it together (really, if I can, anyone should be able to), and you have the patience to work with it, this is one synth that you'll grow to love. [But since I built it, I probably just have that whole "parent-child" thing going on]

Pretty good. It only took me 8 hours to build though. I cannot see how it could possibly take a month.
