The PAiA Theremax was my first real electronics-project. I haven't got a lot of knowledge on electronics, if anything went wrong, I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking...apart from broken leads...

I used a magnifying glasses and followed PAiA's instructions like a slave. When at last I hooked it up - it worked instantly - like right out of the box. I was amazed with myself at first - then I realised how easy this project really is to perform.

The Thremax sounds very well with it's extreme range of pitch and the trimpots makes it easy to choose a suitable range for playing. It's timbre-control is a simple yet effective way to finetune the sound to your liking. The fact that it also have a lot of CV's out as well as Gate/trig would make it ideal for a MIDI-controller as well.

Imagine yourself applying vibrato to a synth by the mere shake of a hand close to the antennae.

I find the Theremax-anteanne a little thin and I'm not a great fan of the lectern case. I've bought some thick copperbolt for new antennaes and I'm building a proper housing for it.

With the Theremax John Simonton prooves that he's not at all standing back for Bob Moog. The bang for buck ratio on the PAiA Theremax is awesome. He's way ahead of Bob on that...

..think I'll try the new 9700 Modular as well :-)

Busyditch a part-timer user from USA writes:
This is an excellent way for someone to get into the DIY end of synthesizer building. Directions to assemble the unit are clear and straightforward. The result is a nice little unit, although the tone it produces is not too "fat" but using the Theremax as a CV controller for other analogue synths is worth the money by itself. Highly recommended.
