The DPM4 is "the bomb". I aquired mine non-working at a pawn shop for $100.00 A hundred and fifty dollars and two weeks later, I had a kickass work station in my home. The sounds you can get out of this thing is amazing. I have programmed sounds from hard rock guitars,(we know synthesizers have a hard time with guitar sounds), but there are some very respectable leads and grunge sounds waiting to be discovered. The basses are too funky. I get low end like you wouldn't believe. (I'm talking rattle the windows, neighbors banging on the door, "turn that thing down!" kinda bass. I have also got nice strings, bells and the usuals out of it. The DPM4 can also be programmed to produce some funky spacey, trance, or just plain wierd sounds. Oh! Let's not forget, IT'S A SAMPLER PLayback ALSO! No SCSI only SDS through midi. With only 750k of memory, Its not like you're gonna be waiting too long for your sample to transfer. Although 750k of memory is dismal,(remember it was introduced within the first couple of years of the last decade), I am happy to say these are some of the cleanest samples I have heard. With its extensive,And I mean EXTENSIVE, editing capabilities you can do practically anything a higher costing sampler will do. The DPM also keeps your samples in memory after powering off.(that's always a nice touch) I recently acquired an SX and am attempting to purchase an SP. The DPM4 has a nine track sequencer thats respectable and relatively easy to use. I am by no means a professional.(Hel, I can't even play a keyboard). Not to make it sound that simple, but to say QUIt Looking for "killer presets".This is A SAMPLE PLayBACK machine and SYNtheSizer. SO Get With ThePRoGrammING. All in All I am very happy with The Peavy DPM4. If you run Across one, Get it. The five rating takes into account the release period and the cost.
