ReBirth is an excellent piece of software. It is very fun to use.

Anyone that compares it to old analog drum or bass boxes and declares ReBirth as "worthless" just does not know what they are talking about.

How can you compare the technologies? You really cannot.

There are noticible differences, but as many have pointed out not $4 K worth of differences.

For the money, it is the easiest way for people to work with this kind of sounds.

You will not find a synth for $150 bucks US that can do what this software can.

The coolest thing I like about ReBirth is that you can create loops, out put them as a wav file, then use software like Sound Forge or Goldwave to tweak the sounds, then use ACID to loop up things.

For the money, you cannot beat this piece of software.

Rebirth is a really usefull emulator, granted it doesn't mimic the 303 to perfection but you show me a device that does that without the old analogue engine. The key is creating sounds that you like and using them in your tracks...nothing more, if you can;t do that with a piece of hardware\software then just move on to the next, choice is not an issue these days. I don't believe I ever listened to a techno track and disliked it because the artists 'weren't using a real 303' ..bad workman..something something....tools. Jason makes a great point, Rebirth encorporates a classic sound with modern day elements (Midi, Sequencer Integration through ReWire etc etc) at an amazing cost. $150 in GC. The alternative is to hunt down a real 303 and pay some horrible bastard $900+ for a machine that was selling for $50 a couple of years ago.

To me there's two things that push Rebirth to a 4, firstly the Mods. Download them for free, add them to a folder and presto, or invariably sign up on the waiting list for the Devilfish Mod for the real 303...pay through the nose...and know that once the mod is in place you can never go back. The other thing is synching to a Midi controller, specifically the Phat-boy. Install Rebirth on a laptop, get a phat-boy and Midiman USB interface and boom...you have a portable set up for gigging.

If hardware is your only thing though get an EA-1....simply the most under rated device out there.

Cool Col J uh what ever dude. This Software synth program is excellent. Though I probably wouldnt buy it as the demo version is enough for me plus it was free. I have the 2.0.1 version demo. But if I decided to buy it. It would atleast cost me around $180 Us than around $4000 Us for the real unrealiable things. Now I havent heard the real 303,808,909 but I have plenty of Techno and dance CD's and heard it plenty off the net and I can ask you is whats the differents except able to tweak 2 knobs instead of one.

Hey go ahead and pay around $4000 US dollers for the real things and then find out it breaks down on yah and have to pay expensive repaires. No spank you. Or Buy Rebirth for around $180 and get the closest emulation with upto date midi implantations and reliability. Your choice!

This soft-synth sounds like shit , I've owned a 303,808, and 909 - and it sure don't sound as good. The 303 sounds really edgey and naft - a real one sounds fuller and more wonky/squelchy. The thing I hate the most, you need no talent to do anything decent with this , it just adds to the huge numbers of dross polluting our airwaves :( And everyone one is buying one and making the Propellorheads rich - its just a toy to me.
