can't give it 5/5, bcs it needs a new firmware:lots of little workflow and utility features: eg: it took a v3 upgrade to get 'motif' copy, a critical feature; it can't send out midi with local on; you can't name or renumber/re-order kits and presets;i have no idea how to put in 32nd+ notes in seq'(copy +edit a preset?);etc etc. BUT it keeps surprising me, and is undeniably a phat drum machine. i'd like to discuss upgrading the firmware, and making this the machine it should be.

Don't know if some of you dudes realised hom much noise there is on the output. For a VA synth this is too much, i could understand noise from a analog synth which is 25 years old but not something that came freom the mid 90'ies.
This box is great fun to use and it does sound ok. Sounds are all dated but this is a twidlers box and making your noises is easy.
This box is first Virtual Analoge synth from Quasimidi but the Polymorph is much better.
Nice box but nowhere near 5 out of 5.

This is an awesome creative tool-Just got one of these and have made some twisted beats on it. Easy to use even without the manual and the sounds are great. Get the audio out expansion so you can compress and eq and this machine will deliver the goods, the sequencer is very good for getting the creative juices going. There is no way this thing sounds dated-how can it it makes banging kicks and cracking snares which can all be altered. The preset patterns are grim-make your own its easy and fun. Superb bass sounds and I have loads of anlogues and still think this machine is great. I wish the sequencer pushed out its patterns to the midi out-I have OS version 2 so not sure if other versions allow this. If anyone knows how to make the bass part of the sequence push out to the midi out so I can have the sequencer triggering an alalogue then please let me know. 5 out of 5

Strangely enough, this 309 is kind of timeless in some way or another. im not sure what it is, but i like it's sequencer and the OS. There is a lot you can do with this puppy if you stay away from the preset patterns (ugh) you can compose some interesting beats with this 309. I used to own 2 of these fully expanded. now, i only have one of them, but i cant bear to let it go. very useful machine. btw....if you want one of these, try to find the fully expanded one. It wont cost you much more and you be glad. Be sure it has both the Drum ROM expansion and the Synth ROM expansion chips installed. They are expensive if you get em extra. AND also try to get one with the Audio I/O expansion. That , in my opinion is a must have. it will allow you to run other instrument thru your 309 and apply FX which can be quite experimental to say the least. I have had some serious fun with the 309 for many years. they are getting harder to find, and price is steady.

This is a fat machine !! I particularly like the 606 hats/toms, and the 909 emulated sounds!! There are many more excellent sound to work with including plenty of good percussion, which takes the number of sequenceable drum parts up to 16 !!!
The quality of sound that comes from this machine is what impresses me most, although the sequencer is also very good and very easy to work with too. The 1 bass part that is provided can produce some vey phatt aggressive sounds (202 - esque) !! The kicks, snares, hats, and bass part are all extremely tweekable allowing this machine to produce a wide variety of interesting timbres.
The only drawbacks I have with the 309 (which explain my rating of 4 not 5) is the fact only 2 efx can be used simulataneously, and a lot of them are quite weak ! It could also do with some individual outputs to make 'beefing' up the kicks/snares easier !!
ALL IN ALL FAR BETTER THAN THE MC-303, AND IN MY OPINIUN HAS A SLIGHT EDGE OVER THE ELECTRIBE-MX AS FAR AS THE DRUM MACHINE GOES!!
