I own a 309 and a rm1x the 309 sounds much better it just adds a bit more underground illegal techno party feel to your sound. the sounds of the rm1x are your more commercial "pay a lot to get in club" sounds.

The sequencer on the rm1x is better for use as a main sequencer than the 309s, although the 309s sequencer feels a bit more vintage. So the best thing to do is get both. But don't you think of buyin a roland mc-303, couse this one sucks to the bone.

this machine is a great unit for the drum sounds and sequencer alone. make sure to get the OS 3.0 version, or else you'll have some issues with timing and the unit locking up.

drum section is fantastic, no two ways about it. all those knobs to tweak the individual drum sounds with in real time, and mute tracks on the floy. the synth section is good also -- it's no nord lead or anything, but still quite good. and at least it is analog modeling, and not just a bunch of samples like the RM1X.

anyone who says the RM1X is a better machine must only be referring to the sequencing capabilities of the RM1X, because the sounds in the 309 blow the RM away, hands down.

quasimidi is gone, so there is no more support for this unit. if you find one, buy it. try to get OS 3.0 if you can.

only thing i like better is the jomox xbase for drums..
