ONe of those synths people wine about.Well firstly people often do this and are often wrong.THe quasimidi stuff suffers from quite quirky and poor build though not to the degree of something that becomes a liability. Its sound????

Well its cheap and tacky in relation to a Korg triton or posh synth BUT . . . .thats why people love them and why you dont se loads for sale. This is probably one of THE most keep and quirky and so very cool synths . . . dates sounds?why the hell dont you run them into some vst fx then ? a waveforms a waveform and reaktor and the korg triton and justa bout any modern synth uses just the same waveforms. What you need witn the quasimidi stuff is an open mind . . . character is unique , low fi but not grungy all the time and can be 12bit glitchy . . . this is an electronic synth . . . can do Very rude basses that are strangely funky (try the Polymorph - now how many of them to you see on ebay;)) . . funkiest synth on the planet.

All the quasimidi stuff is cool - underated due to myopic comparisons . . .for a good mix use many forms of synthesis and many makes ! this make is UNIQUE . . . like a sidstation x a emu rompler . . witha few quirks . . . its unpredictable and therefore creative . . if you want a productive mimikery synth like most of the reviewers get a korg and make music by coppying others. This is a creative synth - dates waveforms that will be in fashion again soon;) . . . . fashion is fickle and good sounds are timeless . . .

LoHr from usa writes:
alot of people complain about it sounding verry muffled (muddy), as if somebody is holding a pillow infront of the speeker. and in a sence, it does. That is a MAJOR shortcoming for artists who compose very crispy clean sounding tracks. HOWEVER, i LOVE it. i prefer the dirtier lo-fi sound (ahex twin, digital hardcore stuff, techno mixed heavy metal, etc..). this synths apparent shortcomings with the sound quality is infact a VERY welcome source into a lo-fi artists studio. what seems to be a flaw is the very thing that gives this synth a special character not found in others. if you want bright clean sounds for ur progressive trance, goa, or ambient do NOT get this synth. if you want a muddy dirty lo-fi grungy sound for ur minimal trance, digital hardcore, gabber, or metal definately get this!

DJ Horus a hobbyist user from Germany writes:
I am using this synth for 8 years now and i must say it always surprised me, although all in one the sound gets along a little muddy and dirty. By programming your own performances using up to 4 basic sounds and the two effect ways, it can produce very individual and impressive sounds, but it never reaches the quality of f.e. a Roland- or Korg-Synth. I heard the sound of the QUASAR first time when I visited Quasimidi in their headquarters here in Germany and at that time I was really overwhelmed of the possibilities, but today I have to say that I plan to sell it, because I have heard its sound too often, but for someone who freshly bought it it is surely an enrichment of sound possibilities. If you want to have a synth with really brilliant sounds you should choose another one, because I continue saying that it sounds a little bit dirty and lo-fi. The other thing is that the collection of presets (I also used the T.R.E. - Modul) was shaped for that time and productions of that time (8 years ago) and some might no longer be actual.

Dominic a part-time user from Holland writes:
I use the Quasar (+HC+TRE) in combination with some other synths and I have to say that the job I want it to do, it does, more than average..

I use it mainly for bass-sounds, because this thing is loaded with those, there are also some great drumkits but the high-end of the sound spectrum does sound a little dull. But if you want an endless choice of differet fat leads, saws, bassdrums and bass sounds, this is the machine for you..

I recommend using the Quasar hooked up to a vitalizer/exciter and a chorus effect..
