frank spooner a professional user from UK writes:
I own QM-Q with TRE and Hardcore expansion cards installed. Some of the basic sounds are dodgey, and the user interface is not particularly intuitive. This equipment is difficult to familiarise yourself with- which is probably the reason for the general pummeling it gets from reviews. However, spending time developing your own sounds is definately worthwhile. If you are technically oriented, the quasar is an interesting complement to any multi sound-module midi setup. Not a bad unit, particularly when you take into consideration that the quasar was released probably around 1995/6.

i used one in a few months long recording session,i'm glad i don't own one,the sound is flat and dry,i originally wanted to use a synth bass for my songs,'coz i couldn't bring my matrix1000 on a long way to the studio, but none of the synthbass presets inside quasar i can use to replace my matrix.even i edited it just didn't has any good result, then i passed to use a layered roland jv synth basses.thats my experience.explained.

Sonicwarrior a hobbyist user from Germany writes:
I have a Quasar since 1996.

IMHO it sounds muggy.

- You can't edit much. The filter is really bad (e.g. at high resonance values the original sound is soften). - It can only be edited in an offset mode, so that you never know the absolute parameter values. - The 1000 part sounds can only be selected with two pots and not with the numeric keys with which you can select the 300 performances. - It is also bad that the fx processors can't be used if you want to use one of the four indivual audio outputs.

So this machine is only qualified for people who want much preset sounds, don't like editing and like the special sound of the quasar which is a matter of taste.

But don't pay too much for this synth. There are much better ones available today (With better sounds, more edit possibilities and more voices).

I merely use it for strange sounds using it's both fx processors.

THE QUASAR REALLY SUCKS..I HAD ONE A FEW MONTHS AGO,BUT I TRADED IT FOR THE MUCH BETTER ROLAND JV 1080.THE FILTERS AND EFFECTS ON THE QUASAR WERE VERY FLAT AND DULL.ALSO THE PRESETS SOUNDED LIKE AN ENHANCED CASIO SK 1...THIN AND NOISY. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR MORE THAN $400!
