I wanted one ever since they first came out. And, finally got one few months a go. But didn't keep it for more than couple of days. Couldn't justify spending that much $$ on a none programmable synth module. Some of the sounds are OK for a module but out of 1000 presets only about 30 or so are usable realistically. The rest are sound effects and useless crap. Also some of the samples are too noisy for a clean recording. I guess if I see one for about 200-250 range I might consider it but I seriously doubt it since I would come to the same conclusion as before.

I do quite like the Quasimidi Stuff because I live near the QM headquarters. That means, there is a possibility to talk directly to the people who developed it. The Quasar is a very good start in the world of Electronic Music. It was my first Expander and i still use it on nearly every track I make. The synthetic sounds (Basses/Synths/Organs) are very good with lot of pressure at the bottom end. Though they sound very dead to me because of the bad filters, the Quasar makes a powerful tool for producing modern music. I'd never give it away...

Great synth.. I got mine third-hand in EXCELLENT condition with a TRE upgrade

for hardly anything (heh heh!) - Incidently, the original buyer was one Liam Howlett

from that band called the Prodigy (fancy that!) Some great sounds on there, but too many crap ones have found their way in. Still

once you've got the addon board you'll really be spoilt for choice! Lots of lovely

analogue-type pads and basses, the filters are always a welcome addition and so's

the arpeggiator! I'm always one to enjoy programming a synth, but the Quasar isn't too friendly

on that point, but at the price you can get one second/third hand these days

you can't find a Tone Generator to touch it!!!!!!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENED 5/5 (only coz the Prodigy owned it once upon a time!)

4/5 (because of the excessive number of bad sounds in among the good ones!)

Stefan Reich a hobbyist user from Germany writes:
The Quasar is an "allrounder". It offers excellent natural sounds: organs (flexible

leslie speed), pianos (few of them, but some sound very good), guitars. With the

built-in distortion effect, you can create the most realistic lead guitars I've

ever heard from a synthesizer! Most of the other sounds are Tekkno stuff. Analog drum sounds are very good; basses and

synths as well. A feature that facilitates every-day use of the synth is the ability to dump

all front panel changes to a sequencer; even in realtime! The Quasar is really great, and since I first heard of it, my search for the

best synthesizer to buy came to a sudden end. But not everything is perfect, however: Sounds are organized in categories, but in each category, there seems to be no

sorting at all. And some sounds are quite poor: mainly horns and natural drums. Anyway, if you want to buy your first synthesizer, stop searching: Quasimidi's

Quasar is the best choice in my opinion - whether you want to do Tekkno or

any other style.
