I just picked up one of these today for $40. I really like it, but I have run into a few glitches/problems maybe one of you could address.

First of all, its noisy... Is this just the nature of the machine, or is there something I can do to prevent this. It didn't come with an original adaptor, so I thought maybe a Roland/Boss adaptor might help things out. The problem is really a problem when I am trying to apply effects to the signal via the aux sends on my board. The loud effects like distortion distort the noise as well, and it is quite loud and irritating. When I run it w/o effects, it sounds pretty clean, but the pcm sounds are not really all the spectacular by themselves.

Also, I have not been able to get it to sync up to any incoming midi clock yet. I have looked at some online manuals, and I think I have all the settings correct, but it still won't start when I start my sequencer. I thought some of you might be able to help out.

Those two things aside, I have had fun playing around with the 505 this evening, and I think it was worth what I paid for it. I really like the way a lot of the samples are kind of short and choppy. It has a kind of unique sound to it. I know Suicide Commando uses one...

True, I remembered reading about circuit bending RZ1's and Speak & Spells as soon as I sent that last message! Doh!

while it's not possible to modify it like it's an analog synth, it can still be circuit bent. actually digital stuff is usually better to circuit bend than analog. in the digital domain sounds can be distorted beyond recognition.

Hmm, the TR505 is digital, it's not like the 808 or 606 i.e. there aren't filter feedback resistors, filter cut-off pots and white noise level pots inside this box, just a few 12 bit PCM samples in ROM linked to a sequencer.... not exactly a circuit benders dream.
