I worked With all the great Synths from 1975 to 1983 in the Studio and on Stage. The 101 & 102 used together defined the Studio sound that built many of the great Jams that came out of our So.Cal Studio. With the 1981 introduction of the TR808/TR606 and the ability to output multi CV sigs to the 101 & 102 syncing the E.Drums into the "Loops" became the Sound that eventually morphed into the"Rhythm Section" that the early RAPERS used to that over the music world. We couldn't use the 101 & 102 on stage because the "patch sounds" were to timely to create. We were not rappers but JAMMERS Laying down intricate JAZ JAMS Live in the Studio that created a sound that no one then or now has ever been able to repeat Without using the exact gear. IT WAS A GREAT TIME IN MODERN MUSIC!

i've got the whole system and love it. ring mod on 102 is great. a bit noisy and those darn roland double triggering keys at times. 104 sequencer is fun (you can trigger each step via gate or button as well).
spring reverb on the mixer sounds good too! not a cheap addon like i thought it might be.
and of course the physical look of it! almost worth the price just to look at it!

I have the 101 synth with keyboard component, and just on its own it has a really thick sound for a 1 osc synth. apparently it has the same 18db/oct filter as the 303, which may explain the richness of tone and cut and buzz in the filter circuits. tuning is a bit of a problem and if you tunr the frequency knob, then it loses it's tunign straight away (maybe mine needs servicing?), but i cant wait to get the other bits (102, 104..not too bothered about the mixer).

freaking awesome filter. i have not heard its equal. the 101 is incredibly thick sounding for only having one oscillator. amazing synth, even if it weren't patchable. the only major gripe (and it is really minor) is that the key triggering is not all that great. i wish it had the key mechanism of the sh-09. the sh-09 has gate and trigger for envelopes, but the system 100 only has gate. the kinda workaround is the trigger out on the back into the envelope gate in...
a very musical synth
