Very under rated synth. Has a character similar to the previous Junos. A bit more glossy sounding in the upper registers and a bit lacking in the low end compared to its predecessors. FORGET THE PRESETS. I use it for glossy and dark ep type sounds mostly but the occasional pad sound has creeped out using a touch of fast LFO on the DCO and filter to give it a bit of growl. The VCA is more akin to the control style you get on the digital yamaha synths of its time and the OSC is much more flexible then previous generations. This synth has a character all its own. Glossy yet speckled with dirt especially with the onboard chorus enabled. The only problem I have with this and any other Roland synth of the time - AFTERTOUCH. If you have a model that works without having to break your fingers or at all you are one of very few.

I just got my Juno2 and it brings back memories of 20 years ago when it was made. I was missing an analog synth in my collection. My JX8P gave up the ghost 8 years ago after many years of service. Finding a PG300 is next to impossible but the free software version works just fine. I put a muti FX unit at the output for reverb and such. I use it on stage and in the studio. When I got it, I had to pull it apart and clean out the whole thing. Big job, but it was fun and the Juno now works perfectly.

The Alpha Juno II is a fantastic synthesizer. I already owned a Juno-60. The filter-section sounds different (no self-osc. on the Alpha Juno) but still good enough for warm and all-day-usable sounds. The Alpha Juno is a little more flexible concerning the choice of DCO waveforms. The basic sound is somewhat "cleaner". You can find a perfect synth bass (good for pop, soul and r'n'b), nice lead sounds (using the portamento-function) and surprisingly good organs among the preset sounds. There is also a special-fx-sound that reminds of the good old PC-games in the early 80's. And there is an "electro-percussion"-preset in the Alpha Juno which was probably used in Stock-Aitken-Watermann-productions like "Never gonna give you up" by Rick Astley or "This time I know it's for real" by Donna Summer. At least it sounds exactly the same. Please don't expect the Alpha Juno to sound like a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5, a Yamaha CS-80, a Roland Jupiter-8, an Oberheim OB-8 or an Elka Synthex. You will need a synth with two independent (!) OSC's per voice to get those jobs done. Using the Alpha Juno together with an external arpeggiator via Midi makes your ears happy for hours. The hardware programmer PG-300 is available as a software simulation for Windows...and it's freeware!

I am looking for some Alpha Juno II key pads as the keys are sticking on my synth. Do you know where I can find any as they have discontinued the model.
