I have used a D5 since it came out, although the one I have I have had for less than10 years. I consider this a solid keyboard except for some of the buttons have fallen in. I mostly use the Tapped EP patch. I have come up with a very nice piano sound by mixing this patch with a Creative Labs PCI512 8MB piano sound. You can hear this sound at my Last.fm site on my "Go Free" song. My "atmosphere" and "Alive" songs were written back when the D5 came out. I do use a couple other keyboards, but love the D5 the most. I haven't replaced the battery yet, but I do keep it plugged in all the time.

I love the D-5 & have owned two in my life time. As has been said previously, the D-5 is NOT great for acoustic sounds (it does have one pretty good acou. bass, though) nor, though I like a lot of them, are the bulk of the internal sounds very useful, esp. if you don't have an imagination. If you have the time &/or patience, this board is wonderful when tweaked & has a a ton of potential. The Tapped EP (performance A 2/5) is to die for, IMHP, & is the main reason I bought a second D-5 unit. My new D5, unfortunately, came with the internal i-bank overitten, so I don't have the Tapped E-Piano after all (drat the luck). If there is anyone out there w/a ROM card that has the original factory i-bank or can tell me a way to reset the unit to factory specs, please contact me at born2praise3@yahoo.com. I went as far as to remove & replace the internal battery to get them back, this only restored the MULTITEMBRAL banks but in PERFORMANCE everything says <Initial Patch>... HELP!

I find the Roland D5 very usefull when I'm writing. I use a number of outboard gear to compose and I find myself going to the D5 for that special sound I just can't find in the other boards (K2000,MR-Rack,05/RW,DX7) I wouldn't recommend this keyboard to everyone only to the artist and sound designers with extensive setups looking for that one sound you just can't get elsewhere.

the main board of my D-5 is out of order, the -6V voltage just -0.6V, the 3 upper right transistor (?) burn out (the jacks held bottomwise) and so the middle one. Can any one help me about the board replacement? I need sugestion.
