I bought the GR-50 when it first came out. It is a real bear to program, nevertheless, it has been part of my main rig ever since. I currently use it stacked under my VG-88. The GR-50 simply has some select sounds that you cannot acheive with the VG-88. Alot of my patches now are a mix of both the Gr-50 and VG-88. The exterior is scratched, soiled and stained after almost 20 years of gigs but it just keeps going...and going! A true testimate to Roland quality.

I recently replaced the battery in my Roland GR-50 Synthesixer. I would like to know how to set the unit to the factory pre-set condition.

Mark Allen a hobbyist user from Canada writes:
Just got a GR-50 and So far it seems pretty good....I agree its a nightmare to navigate.....and has many weird quirks. I have been trying to find a manual for it...but havent found one yet....or an editor....How does that work anyways? I hope to get it to work soon...its very frustrating! Any help??? Even a basic lesson on quick navigation. As I am currently getting single string sounds half decent...when i strum a chord...it sounds like a modulated warble....settings wrong??? Is there a factory reset????

Thanks For any replys in advance!!!!!!!!

Mark

On Internal B, the patch, "Bowed Strings" to me, is the closest thing, (real close, close enough to play along with) to Pat Metheny's synth sound, on tunes like "Are You Going With Me, Question And Answer, Extradition. It's a BLAST! I love the GR-50.

KZ a professional user from now Nashville ( land of no synth music ) writes:
Well, to sum it up, this is basically a stripped down version of the infamous D50/D550 synth (which I own and hold dear) with a Midi guitar interface. In fact, you will see and hear the same old D50 sounds every few patches. The only thing that sounds a little better is the sax4 and a piano sound. Not that they are usable in a sample filled world. It's just that they are better than D50s sax and piano. So I can't tell if these are new PCMs or just a new patch using the same PCM. The point being, although this is a great sounding synth, if you already own a D50/550 or any other JV synth that came after that, then you don't need this for sounds. If You just want a Midi guitar interface, save yourself few $$$ and a lot of head ache and get something else. Why the headache? Because even with a manual this thing is a nightmare to navigate. Just to change sound patch you have to go through 4 sub menus that's why they include the chain option I guess. You want to do a syx dump? good luck. And even with a dedicated software editor it's a nightmare to program.
