I picked this thing up a few days ago at a pawn shop for 100 bucks, it was missing a few sliders. but i can still edit it with a small flat head screw driver (filter, resonance are missing). I used a juno 106 a while ago in almost every song i ever made and got sick of it. But after picking this up, i dont remember the 106 sounding as fat, especially on the bass.. whoa. it sounds so new to me, cannot figure out if its because its hs60 or im just stupid. But i opened it up and disconected the speakers (gets annoying), and i noticed that it says 106s/hs60 on the guts inside. but i think maybe there is a better amp inside for the speakers and that maybe this is what makes it a tad bit warmed and fatter than the 106.. All I can tell you is that this is better than what i remember the 106 being, and for 100 bucks. Whoa. the Synth Gods Where Smiling On Me.

I think this synth is the ultimate beginner synth. Mainly for its built in speakers, and its easy to use interface. You don't need a manual for this really, you figure out what each slider does to the sound. If your a pro, doing studio work, just open the thing up and unplug the speakers from one of the boards, or just stick a 1/4 plug into the headphone jack. If you see a Juno 106, and an HS-60 up for sale, GET THE HS-60, unless you feel like blowing an extra $50 on a name. They sound basically the same. Some people have said that it sound fatter then the juno 106, but i doubt it since they all use the same parts (All the boards are labeled "Juno 106/HS-60 blah blah"). Most of the patches you'll get with this sound like all the music you ever heard in an 80s movie tho, if that doesn't bother you.

This synth rocks!

I have had the hs-60 for about 2 years or so, i found it to be one of the best synth's i have ever purchased. I find that with the built in speakers it is a lot easyier to setup and use for a portable synth too. The Sounds that you are about to produce off of the synth are remarkable, they sound exactly like some of the Juno's and for the money i payed (125.00) which was just an amazing price, for what get and it's also the synthesizer that i use the most and always will.

The only problem is that i can't find a lot of patches for them on the internet, if anyone reads this can they please send me some information. My email is:

I definitely agree with the other opinion. It's the first synth I bought, & I still have it. There's only one oscillator but it still sounds good. Using the unstable filter res. with some noise added, and no chorus gave give some wierd, and out of tune radio sounds.

Even though this is the same synth as the Juno-106 but with added speakers, it has a slightly warmer and fatter sound than my two Juno-106s. However, I stress the word slightly, but it is noticeable. And hit both Poly 1 and 2 buttons at the same time to send it into monster mono mode. It also has a wonderful clean and thick chorus effect that can fatten up any thin and wimpy sound. If you're a gigging synthesist, this is the keyboard you can carry back to the hotel room since it has the built in speakers. Don't let the built in speakers fool you into thinking this is an ametuer keyboard, this is pure Roland Juno (and as I mentioned, mine is fatter than the 106). It's only flaw is that it's not as colorful as the 106, the HS-60 is all grey. If you could care less about cosmetics, and you should, then buy a HS-60 instead of a Juno-106. You will save yourself a few bucks and be just as happy.
