The 990 is one of the best rackmount I have. I would like to find more sounds for it. I never got a chance to buy one of the PCM cards. The 990 will be in my studio for life.

I bought this for about 400$.. i never heard it before buying but i liked the Jd800 so much, so.. why don't get it for 400$? :) I've heard all Roland stuff and nothings sounds like this.. i know there are not acoustic sounds, but i think my samplecds sounds better than any other acoustic emulations.. and i really want my unit so be a SYN-THE-SI-ZER.. In fact many waveforms here are tipical Analog-Like waves (Saw, square, pulse and so on) and filters are good as analog ones.. I often laugh when i hear the "phua" Virtual Analog machines like Clavia (WHICH SOUND LIKE MY 20$ OPL3 !!!) and others.. I don't know why so people wants Virtual Analog.. probably they haven't heard a digital beast like this..or just want to throw money out of the window... (i remember list price was around 3000$ ...now u can get it for 1/5 !!). It's a hard to program it for a newbie anyway.. a LOT of parameters (like old analog machines:) and there is no external controller (like many other roland stuff ): but there are many menus and a large lcd screen so if u know what to do it's easier.. With expansion board u've got 3 synths in one... what are u waiting 4 ? BUY IT!

Midi a professional user from USA writes:
Actually i couldnt tell the difference bewteen the two with the SAME expansion card, and to hear all the sounds u had to load them one at a time into memory, traded it for a Mackie LM-3204! Still sounds nice but 6-voice poly is kinda limited esp. compared to the new XV range...
