Wicked. Man just picked this one up for dirt cheap with a vintage synth expansion board. amazing, blows the jv's out of the water, so clear, so warm. and the price has fallen. great digital for pads and strings and ambience, amazing.

The jd 990 is simply the best rackmount module by roland. this rack is a beast.......its sounds really analog...i got one used for 600 ...and nothing can beat that price for this very powerful piece of equipment..IT DOES ALL SOUNDS VERY GOOD...NOW IF ONLY HAD A JD-800 AS A PROGRAMMER

If I remember right, the JD-990 retailed for $2895. It was expensive as hell.

But, my god, with the "Vintage Synth Expansion Board" inserted, I lost my mind.

This synth rack is incredible sounding. I've owned one since they sold as new. It's so pretty sounding.

I got a JD-800 to program the 990, but the 800 is sort of blah in comparison, even though the 990 is the "rack version" of the 800.

The 990 is better. Don't let all the knobs and sliders on the 800 fool you into thinking it's cooler.

It's not.

I've had my 990 for just a few days and I like it. I am becomming quite accustomed to it in this short period of time. The sounds are warm and deep, just as I like it. I bought it to use with my wx7 wind controller. It very recetive to BC data and programming is made somewhat easier with it's screen. I don't miss my U220 or JV880 at all. Accessing the expansion board is easy once you get the hang of it, plus I like being able to load one patch at a time instead of dumping all 64 or more at once.
