Chris L. a professional user from London. writes:
A great machine..rich sounds and complex programming. Probably the best poly of the lot when you take everything into consideration. The jp6 is just as good and should be considered an equal alternative. They also cost half as much and have midi! The sound creation possibilities are huge. Great warmth and sharpness. Reliable as well. And, strong as an ox. Streets ahead of the prophet 5 and hidiously unreliable and undeveloped memorymoog. Everyone seems to want one of these. Forget synth dealers..they have waiting lists. They're also rarely in the classifieds. Mine had been sold and passed around among my friends since it was new. Seems to be what happens. If you are lucky and rich enough to get one you will be so happy! Forget the critical amongst us. I doubt they have ever seen one let alone owned one!

Robert Morley a professional user from Norway writes:
This is a beautiful instrument, and I think it sounds excellent. The Jupiter 8 is a truly classic synth, used by many of the great names in pop music in the early 80's, so if you like that kind of sound, this synth is one of the best. (Toto, Huey Lewis etc...) When you use all 16 oscillators in unison mode, you get very fat bass sounds with a flanger-like effect. This synt was one of the most expencive Roland ever made, and it sounds like that, if you like 80s sound. One of the best synthesizers ever made!

gunther a professional user from germany writes:
the jupiter 8 is a very proffesional analogue synth. it is really one of the true analogue monsters out there ! to me the sound is not "brassy" all of the time, it just depends on how well you can program. the best things about the jupiter are its sync capabillities and (ofcourse0 its arpegiator. split the keyboard in 2 and you can play cool basslines in the left hand and sweeping pads in the right. it has a bass that goes wayyyy down and the leads can rip your ears :) this has to be one of my favourite synths ! compared to VA synths it still shows that you cant beat true analogue, ofcourse if you want an all sing and dance machine that makes coffee, get a VA, but if you are in the market for sexy looking, great sounding, no menu's just buttons analogue synth...go for this one. to me the current average prices is good for one with midi, which opens up a LOT of new possibillities.

dennis v. rijswijk a professional user from netherlands writes:
I've recently bought a JP-8, and apart from the beautiful design, it's recognizable sound is definately round and warm; especially if you're done with digital and over-used factory-preset-crap, that seems to be accepted as the only measure point in most modern synths. To all pure synthesists: Use this machine, make it sound like YOU want it to. It can do huge, fat PWM, ethereal sine-waves, dreamy arpeggios, spikey hard tones, or new sounds that can colour your mix very well. The warm sound is timeless in my opinion; just make it alive. If you come across one, listen to it while tweaking the knobs and sliders.

ICZER 1: The Pawns of God a professional user from N.Y.C. writes:
The JUPITER 8 is one of my favorate synthesizers. The layout and colorsceme is great. It looks like an ass kicker right from the start and belive me lives up to every bit of its looks. Very flexable and built like a tank, the jp8 offers a distinct sonic landscape not found in any other synth I have incountered. FAT and ORGANIC the jp 8 can take you places you have never been before. This synth was made for programing and all the hype you heard about it, is true. There is not another like it and never will be. Thanks to Roland and to all the people who keep theres going. P.S. encore electronics makes the best midi retrofit kit to date for this analog classic.
