The more and more I use this synth, the better it gets. Add a distortion pedal and all analog synths become obsolete. Acid/Bass sounds exactly like a Josh Wink track or a typical German trance track. The Jp-8000 is meant to be sampled! The Jp-8000 is a great synth! Save your money!

Simply put, the JP8000 is totally worth every penny!

If you're smart, you'll do what I did and buy a used one for under $1000 and find a Nord Rack 1 (expanded) for under $600 and you have the best of both worlds.

JP8000 = Best sounding bass, pads, great leads and strings!

Nord = Best Prophet-like sounds. Great leads, very fat.

Waldorf Q = Thumbs down! Sounds too artificial.

Waldorf Microwave XT = A nightmare to program!

Virus = Almost as good as a Nord, but would be redundant to own both. Nord is better.

AN1x = If you can find one, great substitue for a Nord.

Everyone from Prodigy to Pet Shop Boys still uses this synth. The day they stop making them is the day the complainers will stop complaining and collect one as a "legacy" synth. Simply put, nothing can touch the JP8000, not even by todays standards.

The JP8 is like a woman, It does not reveal itself on first meeting. This keyboard is my first and I love it dearly, The unique waveforms and exspressive capabilities are priceless, and every time I spend time with it I learn a little more about the sounds it can create, no two times have been alike, This is the art of synthesis at my fingertips. like your first love, this synth is one of a kind. remember, don't judge a book by its cover. peace. The Jp-8000 is one amazing soudning synth. It wipes out the past and brings new light into the future of music. Roland sure has come up with a great idea for a synth. Emulate all old roland analog synths and add a touch of digital to it. GREAT! Sometimes when your just tweaking around with a sound, a giant wave of energy swoops the air... This synth will blow your mind! I haven't heard the Waldorfs, or the Viruses, so I couldn't compare. But what creativity that could come from this, is out-of-control. The Future is Analog modeling Synthesizers!

I can agree with the fact that the presets are not very exiting but the JP is a machine with knobs and sliders and just begs to be programmed. often less is more!! 8 note polyphony? so what!! only 2 layers? this baby does not need more to make great sounds. i think a lot of users quit before they get to grasps with the basics of a machine and therefore rely on the presets or 3th party stuff. spend some time with yr machine and learn what it can and can't do. for me the JP still cuts a nice groove and other amatuers like William Orbit, Pet Shop Boys, Front242 etc... will agree
