totally agree w/you, sally. anybody who owns this machine (or an mks-70): get yourself an oberheim matrix 1000 (theyre really cheap these days) and hook it up with your jx via midi: they are sonically similar enough, and - hey presto - you got yourself one huge supersynth that might even surpass a jupiter-8 or matrix-12... after that, youll wonder how anyone could be bothered getting a v.a.... if youre lucky, this super-synth will cost you appr. 1100 euros only.

Super JX 10 is the greatest (well... after jup 8 and few others ;-)

One of the best synths of all time. I bet Roland wish that they never gave it any midi spec! The moaners wouldn't be able to go on and on and on about what it can't do. It has midi which is more than can be said for most analogues. The spec otherwise is complete and awesome. The sounds are amongst some of the best you will get out of any analogue. The build, reliability and keyboard are the best I have ever experienced on a synth. Yes, a pg800 will make your life easier. However, without it things are still straightforward. Not a synth for beginners. Even with the pg it is easy to get lost. Clearly, this is better than 99%of analogue synths. It's not a toy you keep in your bedroom and show off to your mates. Its a keyboard for proper musicians who know how to program and play. If you are a moaner, a beginner or a bedroom mozart, don't bother. Buy yourself a SH101 and convince yourself that your wicked!!

I had one of these once, for a few years. I sold it cos it's a bitch to program without the PG800. Plus the midi implementation sucks. The alpha-dial is terrible! It's all very well saying it doesn't matter, it's an 'analog' synth etc, but it does matter, cos there's no slider nonsense possibilities unless you have the aforementioned programmer. And whoever said it's good for bassy pads...why do you want bassy pads? They'll just gobble the bandwidth in your track and end up fighting the bassline for the low-end territory. Methinks.
Anyway yes I guess it's a bargain and it sure is built like a tank, but I think you're better off spending some more money on something you can actually control. Just my humble opinion for the benefit of anyone thinking of purchasing one.

Just about the best deal in synthdom. This is clearly one of the most powerful and versatile synths available. Everyone's banging on about the underpricing. Who cares. Owners know how good they are. Most are owned by professionals who have no intention of selling theres. Try buying one. Most have gone ages before you get your em in. The sounds are Jupiter meets Dx meets Moog. Just about wonderful. They are also built like a tank. Miles better than other 'great' polys of the 80s. They never break down. Lovely keyboard action..one of the best I have played. A true classic!
