The most recent addition to my rig. The only true analog as well. It has a very smooth sound, and lends itself quite well to pads. The envelopes are a bit on the slow side, but again, find the strengths, and you won't be disappointed. I use it mainly as a controller and pad generator. The filters are, again, smooth and silky. Programming can be a chore, dialing your way through the parameters, and the PG-800 these days can cost as much as a small synth ! But, from what I hear, it would be a great addition. (anyone want to part with one? email me)
Unique and flexible, with the bonus of 76 semi-weighted keys, and 24 VCO's, this is another great early Roland board. They can be found fairly cheap these days, so if you can live without sysex dumps, this would be a good choice.

I had one for a year and i regret that i sold it cause it was one hot sexy synth with a great design. The sound is wery warm and thick and you can be wery creative with this wonderful work of art from Roland.

Lush, buzzy, thick, fat. What an analog standard subtractive synth should be. It is, however, crippled by its awful SYSEX implementation. You will find no editors for it. You will find storage librarians.
Very nice feel, with semi-weighted keys. Real time control is limited. And forget the onboard sequencer, it doesn't work.
If you really nead the "real thing" in analog, this is a good place to start. The PG-800 may make it a useful techno performance board.
Get the final ROM version from Roland, older ones cause dropouts.
A circuit modification will make the aftertouch function superbly.

I have a JX-10. I'll never give it away. It's perfect when it comes to bass
patches, strings, digital pianos, and even some percussion sounds. Not to
mention it has 76 keys, which is a huge plus for any keyboardist.
If you want an analog board this is a winner. Besides, Jane Child used it on
here hit single "I don't want to fall in love". That speaks for itself!
