You just have to engage your mind with the computer. The presets are shit but change them, get an arpeggio going and mess with the realtime controls, hold the transpose button and twiddle the jog wheel at the same time as having your delay and feedback to the max with portamento. Change the settings all the time and alter the release/attack .Finally while you have a drum arpeggio going press the porta button on and off and go as high on the scale as you can to enter the realm of random. When you get to this 'random' area when the pitch is at its highest you will find your self in a mad place where you can be really creative.

Rerally, this machine is incredibly good for a live electonic music performance, controlled manually.

Me and my friend just purchased a 505 and its awesome. That D beam is pretty rad, we've spent about two days with it and we pretty much got it down, when you know what your doing the 505 can throw down.

This is a great machine. I've used it for a few years. I realize everyone has different expectations for the machine. As far as drum sounds they all like the mc 307. The effects are great. This machine also give the user the ability to change the sound by sound pitch and add effects. The setup is pretty good casue you don't have to search different screens to make changes to your sounds. you can use the slider on the front of the board. The D beam is great also.

I love the 505. When I feel good and have enough inspiration I can do anything with this machine. It's great to use as a sequenzer, controling other synths. It is a very complex machine, I first had the MC-303, it took me years to find it out. But when you're used to it you can't work without it.
