I was really amazed when I first tried patterns, they are really great in most part. Preset patches are not great but patterns sounds great, so again, it's how and for what you use those sounds. Bad is that when you select wave(for creating patch max 4 waves/patch), there is only numbers not names. I was really disappointed that there is no good pads out there. Drums are great and 3 pair of outputs are great. Im sure there is many "programmers" who can get really interesting sounds out of this machine. Price is quite high.

I have a MC-505 and an SP-808. If you're wanting to make some kick ass D&B, Trance, Breaks...whatever, these two machines together are unstoppable. Once you get past the interface and learn their full potential there really is no limit to what you can come up with.

Well i just sold my Sp-808 for this and it was a big change. I need an all in one peice of equipment and this was it. Heres why.... First off is the price, its decently cheep for what you can turn out. Secondly its got a great sequencer espscially for live pa type music. Another great feture is the midi out function to control and external synth. Althought the sound engine is pretty cheep sounding and the wave samples they have are cheezy, you can easily create a good patch on the mc 505 by tweeking the 4 layers that make up the patch. I was absolutely amased with the quality of the filters, THIS IS A DEFINITE PLUS. If you add this in with the 3 effects you can use, you can seriously make some good music. If you just want to screw around with the presets DON'T BUY IT, it's best used as a synth, sequencer, and drum machine. If you want to make good music on this you will need to start from scratch. This is a good first insturment for you newbies that use rebirth because of the interface is similar (16 step seq.). I am very happy I got my MC-505.
